Newby from the UK...needs help :)

Recommended Posts

Hi

Hope someone can help...

I've been using a pcut cto630 for several years through signblazer elements with no problems.. Recently there was a intermittant problem where the cutter wasnt recognised, until eventually it wouldnt work at all. I replaced usb cable & tried a usb serial converter with no success.

I've got a new cutter...same model & cant get it to set up. I've tried 2 laptops, running windows 7 and vista. It wont "recognise" on either. One thing that concerns me is that when I press the mode button, there is no option for baud rate...it goes through the other modes but baud rate just isnt there..also when turned to "on-line" I can move the carriage left, right up & down using the buttons...i dont remember being able to do that on the old one.....

Can anyone offer any help?? Is the new cutter broken?

Many thanks

col

Try the set up here..  And make you  have downloaded all of the drivers needed..  Also for USB to serial the only recommended one is a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter or a Belkin..  Most others do not work with vinyl cutters.

Choose PCUT here

When you turn the cutter on- it should say online. Press online- then it should show X Y axis. Press the Mode key seven times, and that should show the baud rate- default 9600.

Make sure your signblazer ports are set the same as the Device manager port.

Also in signblazer, you should see your adapter as an option when its plugged in. It may say "COM1 Serial". or whatever the port is. you may have to re-assign it.

Creation Pcut makes a lot of different models, and US can have different models than UK .. Some have no Serial connection.  Some have SD card readers..   UScutter does not sell them any more..

Here is the Pcut user manual for the Pcut that was sold here in US...  Don't know if it would help you...This says Laser Pointer as it was just a Pcut with a laser on it.

You would be way ahead with a Tripp Lite Keyspan adapter on a value cutter anyway... It controls the data sent.   We tell people here all the time who have a value cutter to get one.  I'm sure you can find one in UK also as they are sold worldwide.

ah .getting somewhere

Connected with the usb serial adapter & for some reason it came up with "laser working" on the display & nothing else. So I googled that & on the T-shirt forum someone had posted that he'd overcome that by setting the baud rates to 38400 on the device manager... it then worked for a small cut, just a square. I then loaded up one of my designs..quite intricate & it started, stopped and sent my laptop haywire!!! the screen went black with loads of blue lines & the laptop turned itself off. lol

As I stated above.  most USB to serial  connectors will not work with a vinyl cutter.  Only a Tripp Lite Keyspan Adapter or a Belkin....are recommended.

I'll be getting one of them then... thank you for your help

Your welcome,, Hope you get it going,  You will need the serial cable that came with your cutter to attach to the Keyspan Adapter or Belkin,  The USB end of Keyspan goes to your computer, then the other end attaches to the serial cable, then to your vinyl cutter.

Skeeter I seem to remember that some of the UK P-Cuts didn't have a serial port on the cutter but I can't remember for sure.

Redline, I haven't had my P-Cut in a few years but it I remember correctly it was a set baud rate and you just adjusted your cutting software to be at the same rate. (could be wrong on that) On the cutter head jog you can move it around while in on-line but I don't think you can zero it out so it will zoom back to the 0 point and start cutting from there once you try to cut. Like the other info I am working off my well used memory and may be wrong and I'm positive my model was different than what you probably have so take it for what it's worth.

I know some do not, some are USB only..  but he stated above that he connected a USB to serial adapter to his cutter, so he must have a serial port,  then he got the BLUE screen of death,,,
