Gerber Edge 2 - strange question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a strange question- I am looking to  purchase a Gerber Edge 2 tomorrow. If anyone has experience with this unit I appreciate the feedback.

Question:.  Has anyone performed a print with the machine, then contour cut with another brand cutter? i.e. graphtec, Roland, etc.

So the sale is for the thermal Printer- seller no longer has the plotter. I imagine I would have to print registration marks in one dark foil.

If this post is in the wrong section- my apologies.

Thanks,

no experience with them but I had had someone print for me on chrome with one - nice prints.  as I recall you have to use their software so make sure it comes with it

Thank you Dakota. I saw the ones you had made!  Sharp!!

As I respond, I just found a guy in the UK that used Flexi demo version, and a CE5000 to perform the contour cut...OK I feel better about making this purchase. But the software would be good if it comes with it.  Fingers Crossed...

"First test of stickers printed on the edge and cut on my Graphtec CE5000 using Crop Mark recognition, perfect.  http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=132882&id=114336745277760  Now then, my next question, how much do i charge, is there any freeware that can point me in the right direction? I know it used to be imbedded in the edge software i used many years ago.

Cheers, Steve"

UPDATE:

Well, bringing a thread back from January.  In a round about way, I have ended up with:

1. the Gerber Edge 2- I had to buy it from a guy who already bought it at the estate sale.

2. 34 rolls of Oracal 651-multiple colors  mostly new, all 15" punched for the edge.- bought from another guy closing a gift business. Not edge material, but can be used.

3. 25 Edge Foils- multiple colors and lengths.- from the estate sale as the Edge above

For the above, I am in it for 950.00  The last three days I have been messing with FlexiSign Pro  and now dialing in the edge and the FC7000 to do the contour cutting. Flexi has the drivers for both Gerber and the FC, so tying together a print and cut solution from one computer. Also Flexi can call up all the color ribbons, vinyl colors and do gradients. (Of course it can't print photos of course like a solvent printer).

All I have to say is this is going to be FUN doing durable labels, Clear Vinyl clings, and thermal printing is cool ! (well, hot actually) :):) Looking forward to doming too...

Getting Contour cut dialed in. Pic below is Black lettering placed on white.  A little ways to go. So many colors and possibilities...

Jay,

Yes- Test was done on 651. From what I have read, with some films you have to adjust the heat settings, but this was stock setting.

Dakota- no problem- I have chrome film ready to try.

If anyone wants me to try a sample- shoot me a message-- happy to oblige as I play with the system.

Hi Jburns,

could I ask, did you manage create those registration marks in FlexiSign or did you import it together with lettering TEST?

Hi Mati,

I used the Graphtec registration marks created in Flexisign- since that test I have used Type 2- all settings are in the Flexi software. I also calibrated so the contour cuts are much more accurate.

---(I happened to pick up another Edge 1 printer- looking to sell along with Graphix Advantange 6.2 software and computer).---I bought it all for the foils :)

That's pretty sweet man.  Be sure to post up pics as you do work with that thing. Very interesting and like Scott said what a bargain.

Hi Jburns,

yeah, I did that too. I recently purchased Gerber 1 and it asks me to put all process CMYK foils just to print the registration marks….weird. This slows down the process a lot - especially when you want to print just one colour - for example just black.

Is there any way in FlexiSign how to configure the colour of marks to spot black?

I must be missing something here.

Btw that’s a nice collection of vinyls and foils ;-)

Thanks- I think I am up to 70 or so foils now.  I agree- you definitely want to use either just a process black foil or regular black for for the crop marks. ( you can lie to the  vinyl printer :)) I did two things to achieve this- let me know if it works for you:

1. Default properties Crop Marks make sure your settings are like below:

setting%201.png.jpeg

And then second:

2. Flip the foil order- and un-check print spot colors only. If you designate spot colors- printer should ask for them on its screen

setting%202.jpg

3. On the Rip and Print Screen: Set Labels and Marks- Color to All:

setting%203.jpg

Now if you get a different scree that says "Rip and Print setting are different than the PM"-- choose PM.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for that. I didn’t have enough time to play with it yet, but I’ll certainly do that during the weekend. I really appreciate your help. Cheers
