Hi.... I'm New Here.... I'd Like To Share My "Know How's"

Recommended Posts

How are you guys....  An Ladies as well!  I'm Derrick....

I started Sold Out Creations in 2011 creating custom apparel

and since then been set out to make this brand a empire.

Not here to discuss my brand, wanting to know more feel free to

google the name...  Ok...

I use Epson 1400's, Graphtec Craft Robo ProS's, Adobe Photoshop,

and Adobe Illustrator to create all of my magic...  I have been a graphic

designer before ever getting into the apparel world...  Now here I am....

I design heat transfers, heat transfer vinyl, as well as screenprinting...

I'm here to help as many people as I can with what I know.  I have good

experience in this world so, I'm sure my help will be nice for others...  I had nobody

to help me and show me how this world go, so I think for me to show and help other will only

be a good deed....

I feel cool to be in a community of likeminded people who have the

same interest as I....  I hope you guys can welcome me with open arms

I'm cool, loved by many, and a family person as most decent humans

should be and....  Again...  I'm here to help nothing more...

Welcome to the forum.

I visited your site but didn't make it past page one...

I found your designs crude and insulting.

Perhaps you could use your talents for more positive designs.

I do not have designs of mines personally.  I design things for clients from all walks

of life.  I have no restrictions according to what I design nor who I design for.  I reside

in Memphis, TN...  I have work from daycares all the way to churches and non profit groups...

You looked at your own will...  I can't really do much for how you feel, but to see good things

I've done...?  Its there as well...

Perhaps you could promote more positive items

rather than those you have online.

I would be embarassed to show that as examples of

my work.

Actually, maybe it's just me but I would refuse to create

many of those.

There are plenty people who have they

"say so" over how or which way they'd do

apparel, but the thing of it is...  Its my business...

I make a living from it and it take care of my family.

I'm just doing what works, not what the whole world

would like.  I come here to help others with my experience

nothing more.  Some people don't like Walmart... Do Walmart

care?  If I look at what you do I can assure you I can find somethings

I do not like about your designing....  Its just life...

There's 30 seconds of my life I'll never get back. I do that crap when asked but I would never brag it up or promote it. Sorry just my opinion.

I didn't join this site to be hounded by you guys opinion...

Neither am I bothered...  Why complain to me like I tried to

sell a service or business here?  Geesh...  I hope this ain't

a place of old angry trolls upset for nothing.

It is appreciated that you want to help others here.

I am not criticizing your design talent....

just what you choose to show as samples of your work.

If you want to do that kind of stuff....fine...

I'm just suggesting you show off more positive samples.

If half your web viewers are women....you will alienate

a good percentage of them right away.

Enough said.

I offered to show nothing...  You just felt free to go look...  I offered my help

nothing more...  Listen here? I'm doing well, not here to sell nothing or look for

ways to make money.  My quality sell itself...  Your opinion is fine, but do not brush

your opinion off on me as if I'm asking you to be a client of mines.  Ok I get you dislike

the quality of material...  Fine... I'm not here for that...

Crude...  Just saying.  You are wasting your "Talents" and anyone here, even beginners can type a phrase.  Poor choice of phrases if you want to make a first impression.

Welcome to the forum. I too am a graphic designer working in Adobe CC...full time employed as a graphic artist/brand manager here in SC and do my decals as a side business. Although your artwork doesn't seem to be a big hit with a few people don't shy away from showing it....you know that is what this forum was created for  ;D. It's good to get feedback from others and no offense, but I don't think people will come to you looking for help if they don't know what you are capable of doing. I know several "go to guys" on here for questions but that's because I am familiar with the work they do and the knowledge they present of certain processes.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not here to critique you but will say that a big chunk of the forum are a conservative bunch (myself included) but I don't think it's my place to worry about your business. About the only words of advice I would give are that if you are posting NFL t-shirts on your facebook page I sure hope you're licensed or they'll be owning everything you got and everything your going to have. So aside from possible trademark infringement I commend you on your go-get-em attitude and the fact that you have muscled through and built a business and a skill set up from scratch which with AI and PS are big accomplishments all in themselves. Like moody said, this forum is a collaboration of a bunch of people very much like yourself in the entrepreneurial spirit of business and also in a trade that is often clandestine enough that it's really tough to figure out "How the hell did they do that?" You know what I'm saying? So welcome from Idaho. And before you ask, yes I am probably considered a country hick.

I'm allowed to make custom NFL stuff...  I'm not

allowed to make NFL products to sell them for my own

benefit.  Darcare use Barney as paint to decorate the

building...  Barney creators are not going around sueing

daycares.   I figured I was in a place of mean people...  I done

nothing to nobody posted a decent introduction and still  here come

some people acting up like I pee'd in their coffee or something...

I nicely stated that I am not here to discuss my designs.  They are

things other people ordered...  Why shall I be held accountable for what

other people ordered...  I do it because it pay my bills....  And its legal ;D

This is nothing I am getting paid to do...  Honestly...  I will

help those I see I can help!  I'm not posted on here like I get

paid to help people...  Some will get to know me over time and

from the looks of everything most will just dislike me! ;D  I'm not about

to start designing what these people demand of me ;D  I hope they all soften

up and understand we are not from the same location.  I live in Memphis, TN

the things you see are the type of people I get orders from it does not define me

as a person....

This is an industry full of critics, just a fact of life. I spent the better part of a day on my FB page explaining to someone on here why I chose to put up a particular sign on my door. I don't dislike that person because he brought a different viewpoint to the table and I considered what he was saying from all sides. At the end of the day we are what we do and we will always be judged by how we present ourselves but this does not mean that I hate or even dislike you since we don't know each other well enough for that it just says that we have different tastes.

Like I said it's none of my concern, I was just trying to give some friendly advice which I think you took wrong. If you think it's legal to make money using a logo from an NFL team in any configuration without express written consent from the trademark holder you are in for a big surprise. That is something you should do some more research into rather than using the "the daycare used Barney" defense. You can't even legally GIVE AWAY a replication of a trademarked logo legally. It's what they call diluting their market. You ARE held absolutely accountable to what YOU decide to make. The bottom line is that YOU have the special ability to create (or re-create) all kinds of stuff and it's illegal to use work like logo's that have been trademarked in large part due to the amount of real expense that said companies have went to to advertise and make their brand famous. Piggybacking on their success makes you hugely liable. That's all I'm saying. I don't care what you do or don't do, heck I live clear over in Idaho and we just got the internet last week so we're way behind the times.

Ha ha! I like to make fun of our state but it's mostly to try and keep people from moving here from California. We are the home of Micron so if that tells you anything.

You guys seem to not understand I don't care about all that going

back and forward this has nearly made me hate I sign up to

this forum.  ;D  You people sound like a bunch of people with

complains and looking to whining about something.  Just chill already...

Just go around the forum looking for something to bicker and

whine about ;D

I see so many airbrushed NFL shirts if they nab me they will

have so many companies to nail, I'll report all the reproduced

logos from all companies here in Memphis....  Fans order custom

stuff all the time NFL can't tell fans not to order custom stuff....  NFL

can't watch all of its fans and then attempt to sue them for a logo ;D

You feel its that serious then go tell the copyright police then since you

enforcing the law like a sheriff ;D  lets see if it's worth sending a lawyer

after me for 1 logo produced once....

Actually the NFL can tell fans that they can't order custom stuff if they are using their actual logo but that doesn't mean they don't still do it or that people still make them anyway. Regardless of any of that I didn't mean to get off on the wrong foot on your very first intro post sorry. And I actually try not to get going back and forth on things if I can avoid it. I was just trying to help you out. The forum helped me avoid a potential infringement early on with a parody of the Harley Davidson logo that I had worked long and hard on. I did a lot of study including talking with an attorney and in the end found that my case was defensible in court but would probably end up having to go there to be vetted and I didn't want to go to court with HD no way no how. I am sorry if I have helped to make your first visit with the forum a downer. If I see someone about to step into the path of a truck I usually try to give them a heads-up that's all.

I've seen that logo replicated so many times for fans

the last thing I can worry about is the NFL...  NFL can not

tell people how to spend their money.  If a Dallas fan wants

to go get a custom shirt made to match a certain pair of

shoes or something.... You telling me the NFL has that much control?

Really?  What planet are you on?

If they bother me I can promise they a bag up and

gone about their business.  Usually their attorney

will send out a threatening letter if they feel you are

going to far with the usage of their logo.  People flip logos

and brand names all the time without people getting sued...

I'm not sure how art is taken where you are located, but I'm

here in Memphis and sooooo many logos are replicated and

people are wearing them.   Check out clothing in a store called

"City Gear" its a big time high end fashion store!  You will see so many

logos and brands twisted and again nobody has to be getting sued...

This store has been open over 10 years I know...  With locations

in so many cities....  People get copyright laws all twisted now a days...

Only thing I will say on this topic is do not post copyright material on the forum. It is against forum rules and like you said you can do whatever you want out in the world. All those corporate lawyers are really just paid to sit on their asses all day and no to protect the interests of the companies they work for.
