Adobe CS5 and cut master 3

Recommended Posts

I am trying to work on simple text to learn more about the software. If i put an outline on my text and click send to cutter it only chooses the original text. It does this to me in corel as well. What am i doing wrong?

If you have stroke then you have to expand the stroke or expand appearance. In AI I don't use any stroke because the process to expand it will change things in unwanted ways. I usually convert the text to outlines then object>compound path>make then object>path>offset path and make the outlines as a separate object. Your cutting software (anyones) can't deal with stokes lines. Just the lines themselves. An easy way to see what your cutter is getting is to go into view>outlines and it will let you see all the actual lines that your cutter see's this will help you decide if you are ready to send or not.

What kind of budget? Sign blazer is free and pretty easy to pick up on.

I've read of people using sb with the c6000. It should come up in a search.

I think your money would be well spent on Adobe's Classroom in a Book for CS5 and watching YouTube tutorials.

Adobe is a very powerful tool and the chapters on the pen tool and pathfinder will teach most of what you need to know for cut vinyl decals

CS6 and my CE6000 work pretty much flawless on our Macs. I am hopeful that it will be the same experience on the windows laptop I will be using next.

Graphtec has been really great about updating the software as well for Macs.

The only pitfall is needing a windows computer to update the cutters firmware should you feel the need to do so.

I believe the same version of cutting master 3 works between CS5 and CS6, and I am not aware of any major changes between the illustrator versions as far as features go so it should work well for you.

Ha ha! Don't give up! You just have to expand the appearance. AI keeps the arc or arch or any other effect live so you can still edit it if you want to tweak it again. It just needs you to tell it you are done. If you weren't actually needing to cut it you would never need to expand it on out.

Sometimes I keep a copy of things like that setting over on the side in case I screw it up somewhere way down the line and need to go back to that point and don't want to push undo 400 times. Then if I don't need it I just delete the spare from the working file. Another good idea is to do similar and keep your text in live text so you can actually remember what it was when you try to do something else a year later. Just copy and past the whole file into a new one and save the old as a working file with all the text live. Can't tell you who many times I have had to spend a long time trying to figure out which font I was using in a clients art when they want something modified way later.
