truck I lettered today

Recommended Posts

Looks good, is there a certain size the DOT numbers have to be?

yes, there is a regulation size that the DOT numbers should be but I have never had a problem with now following them.

As long as they are bold and visible.

Please elaborate because everything I've ever read is something to the effect of clearly visible from "x" distance. I think it was 50' but I can't remember off hand.

© Size, shape, location, and color of marking. The marking must—
(1) Appear on both sides of the self-propelled CMV;
(2) Be in letters that contrast sharply in color with the background on which the letters are placed;
(3) Be readily legible, during daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet (15.24 meters) while the CMV is stationary; and
(4) Be kept and maintained in a manner that retains the legibility required by paragraph ©(3) of this section.
(d) Construction and durability. The marking may be painted on the CMV or may consist of a removable device, if that device meets the identification and legibility requirements of paragraph © of this section, and such marking must be maintained as required by paragraph ©(4) of this section.

50 ft vis is what I thought. Guess it depends on how good the DOT persons vision is.

The information I have is that         "Generally speaking, letters and numbers that are two inches in height will satisfy the legibility standard"

Whats on the truck is only 1.75 inches.

Depends on the font, some are easier to read than others. I've done DOT #'s in tribal before and lets face it that's hard to read at any distance.
