MH871 Cutter not communicating with Computer?

Recommended Posts

I've been using the same cutter/ PC USB connection for 4 years and on Wednesday, SignBlazers has been displaying an error message every attempt I make to cut out an image.

"can not open the output device. Error initializing cutter."

I'm thinking it's something wrong with the USB connection on the board of the vinyl cutter.

Sidenote, Is there anywhere I can buy a compatible serial cable to use with my cutter and my desktop computer instead of my laptop?

UScutter only recommends a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter or a Belkin for their cutters.

Make sure that your com port numbers still match in your computer device manager and Signblazer

Where would I buy the actual cable to use bewtween the adapter and the cutter? I misplaced the one that came with it years ago since I only used USB at the time.

You would have to install the driver that comes with the Keyspan or Belkin cable...

I don't use a value cutter like a MH series....

Have you tried a new USB cable?

your usb port on the refine is not a true usb - it  uses a cheap flaky emulation chip that communicated from your computer to the real serial communication within the cutter - that is why people have trouble with the usb on that cutter.  so saying that going with the keyspan will make your usb non functional is kinda sideways thinking.  the keyspan will make a better connection to usb on your computer thru the serial port on the cutter.
