Kelleybell123 10 Posted September 21, 2014 Are there any outdoor vinyl other than oracal 651? I cant stand weeding the white 651. My eyesight isnt that good anyway but I can never see the cut lines with this color vinyl with the blue backing. Im guessing the blue backing is the cause because I have some other vinyl (which is not considered outdoor btw) that I can weed no problem. Thanks for any insight you can give
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted September 21, 2014 The liner comes in 2 colors depending on the brand. If you don't like the blue you'll hate the alternative which is white just like the vinyl.
dwp99 283 Posted September 21, 2014 White is harder to see the cut lines. Try shining a light on the vinyl at a low angle. I find that makes a big difference.
OWJones 1,981 Posted September 21, 2014 I have a table-top, goose neck OttLite craft lamp on my weeding table that I can bend down low and shine it across the surface of the vinyl, it makes it much easier to find the edges when weeding. Jaybird is right, white vinyl on a white backing is horrible to work with, because even after weeding it's hard to see what you've done, and if you try and layer on top of it? Forget about it - even with clear tape you can't distinguish the vinyl from the backing...

Thanks for any insight you can give There is a wide array of exterior vinyls in different grades the premium vinyls seem easier to weed and apply to me. A little trick for weeding white is to wipe a little carpenters chalk I use blue( I put it in an old sock like a pounce bag) and rub over the cut lines a small amount of ckalk deposits in the cut naking it more visable. I use blue on white.
bigmax 166 Posted September 24, 2014 I use the carpenters chalk also. Works like a charm.
