mr300s 1,272 Posted September 17, 2014 If it's like corel you will see arrange then group and un group is there along with break apart like One Off Grafx said select the object first
HDN 95 Posted September 17, 2014 nope not working..... no break apart option ......it is already ungrouped I still can not highlight a section.
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted September 17, 2014 Sometimes you have to ungroup a few times. Look over in the layers to see if it's still part of a group with a little triangle. If it's not and is a compound shape then go to object>compound shape>release

Wildgoose 4,200 Posted September 18, 2014 HDN, It's also possible to create compound shapes rather than compound paths. They are basically a live object with each component somewhat linked but still live rather than being changed into a single object. Rare to use them in a cutting application and they can be confusing as all get-out to work with for those new to the program. I have read they are unique to illustrator and photoshop but I don't know if thats true or not.
Cal 393 Posted September 18, 2014 Perhaps your object is part of a larger group? For example, you have the date with the year 2014 and you have tried to ungroup "2014" to change it to 2013. You may be unable to ungroup 2014 because it is part of the larger group "9-17-2014"... I am still learning AI myself so just a guess, Cal
HDN 95 Posted September 18, 2014 How would I take this image apart to move the stars ?
mr300s 1,272 Posted September 18, 2014 In Corel I just converted it to a eps then hit the break apart
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted September 18, 2014 How would I take this image apart to move the stars ? I need you to load the actual file if it's not too large and I will check it out to see why it's not either ungrouping or if a compound path why it won't release. Even if it's still all one you should be able to use the white selection tool and option click one of the stars and move it where you want.
djque 246 Posted September 19, 2014 flatten transparencys then top left arrow on your tool bar called direct selection bar select the star and move this how I do it I'm also still learning.
HDN 95 Posted September 19, 2014 Will give it a shot later this evening. Again thanks for all the help
FrznFire07 217 Posted September 19, 2014 Try unmasking it. Illustrator will sometimes put masks around groups of objects.
HDN 95 Posted September 22, 2014 Thank You for all the help. However I do not have enough free time to learn how to use it right now. I am going to give Corell a shot and go from there. David

Boom 7 Posted September 24, 2014 Highlight the whole image and click expand Then click ungroup. Then use the selection tool(solid arrrow button) click on the star you want to remove and move it. I love illustrator. if you have more question hit me up.
