Spunky.Fresh.Designs 11 Posted September 9, 2014 Is medium tack masking tape hard to pull off the roll? I'm having to use all my strength to do so. I'm starting to think I was sent the wrong material
Go-C Graphics 856 Posted September 9, 2014 if it's a wide roll it can be alittle tough. Time to hit the gym.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted September 9, 2014 I use Medium tack tape all of the time...It can be a little bit tough. but it needs to be..
Spunky.Fresh.Designs 11 Posted September 9, 2014 It doesn't seem a little tough..it's VERY tough. almost impossible to pull off the roll
Spunky.Fresh.Designs 11 Posted September 9, 2014 I won't have to go to the gym...I'll have guns before the month is over by using this tape
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted September 9, 2014 what type of transfer tape applicator are you using?..I don't pull on transfer tape.. With what I use,, I only unroll a small amount, then I actually am unrolling the roll by hand, not pulling on the tape it's self. I use a Mask Rite. yep a little pricey, but I have used this since 2006,,, and any size of tape works up to 24" wide, and nothing is attached to your table, and you have unlimited length. Tape sits on top, and I unroll as I go. There is also a 30" I own it also... I add a few rolls of app tape on the beginning of the decal for weight, and go right down the decal. I am talking about long decals 8-16 ft length....are not a problem. on a 8ft table.is all I have. But is used for most medium sized on up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vinyl-Application-Transfer-Tape-Professional-Applicator-/380477118691?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58963418e3
OWJones 1,981 Posted September 10, 2014 I don't have a tape installer of any kind, and it can be a real pain to manually unroll some tapes - anything more than 18" wide and I can pretty much guarantee the use of multiple bad words.... especially if it rips...
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted September 10, 2014 I have one of these on my bench and it works great but 24" tape can be hard to pull no matter what you use. http://www.uscutter.com/APPRoller-Tape-Application-Roller
Go-C Graphics 856 Posted September 10, 2014 this poses a question.... Seeing as they are roughly the same price, which would you get? A Mask Rite or a Big Squeegee?
express2100 154 Posted September 10, 2014 I use this one with 24" tape and it seems to work well. They don't send the cores with it so you'll need to supply your own.Mz SKEETER, Can you explain your process? I'm having a hard time figuring out how you unroll a little at a time with 8' to 16' decals. Just how long are your arms? I pull the tape to the opposite end of the decal and squeegee back to the app roll. EDIT : The little demonstration vid didn't load the first time I went to the site. I had no idea that was how it worked. Thought it was just another approller type. I'd like to try it!! I have also had good results using my Big Squeegee Cut Vinyl Tool on larger decals....One pass and done...then hit it with a small squeegee for good measure. Now this is used along with my app tape roller as described above.
pshawny 410 Posted September 10, 2014 I had a defective roll of HT-55 once. It was 5x harder to pull than it should have been & it curled in the corners after being applied. Ended up tossing most of a 24" roll in the trash. I use one of these, so applying tape is a breeze
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted September 10, 2014 That's a Weber right?
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted September 10, 2014 I took these photos several years ago... I have my hand on top of the roll and unwind the roll. I use a blank tube to keep the pressure even....The rollers go on the table and roll.... I can tape any length...I can bring the taped decal end up on the table, put a roll of tape on it for weight, and keep scooting the decal down until it is all done... I do it all the time.. Would be easier for a longer table, but I only have room for an 8ft.... You just have to make sure you start straight.. I stand at the end of my table and eyeball it good before I start.. I am actually not doing it as they show...The tape is supposed to go under the roller as you go...I didn't like it that way... I use it my way...I just run my hand back and forth over the tape til I am done,,Then I squeegee it...If you get a little wrinkle in the tape, I can feel everything with my hand as I am going back and forth...but a wrinkle, you can roll the tape back a bit and get it out,, forgive the dust.....
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted September 11, 2014 I use a Big Squeegee. It took a little practice to figure out what way I liked to use it best but now if I am taping up anything very big at all I use it including skinny stuff 12" wide. All the smaller things I use the tape upside down method but anything too long for that or too wide and it's the Big Squeegee for me. Only downside it I waste about 12" at the start to line things up but it will generally track within 1/4 inch even on long 8ft to 15ft stuff. Absolutely a lifesaver. I doo it all alone too.
express2100 154 Posted September 11, 2014 upside down method? guess it's time for one more lesson
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted September 12, 2014 upside down method? guess it's time for one more lesson Smaller stuff, unroll your app tape sticky side up then lay tour design face down onto it (usually with a mild bend in the middle for longer things so it starts touching int he middle first) then squeegee the back of the carrier just like you would normally on the front. Sometimes I flip it and re-squeegee again from the front. Works great. I can never remember who posted that idea but I learned it here on the forum when I was new. I've been having a problem with the vinyl haven't a natural wave to it and it's been messing up when I apply the app tape.
Spunky.Fresh.Designs 11 Posted September 17, 2014 tape side up...Definitely going to try that out. I secured the UScutter app roller with a huge clamp and haven't had a problem since...It's a little tough but WAAAAY easier to handle
