Customers complaining about Greenstar app tape.

Recommended Posts

They are saying the decal is not wanting to pull off the backing paper causing them to mess up the decal. I have Have tested this and they are right. Bigger stuff is ok but smaller letters wont let go easy. The tape isnt strong enough. Is there a better tape I should be using for automotive decals using 651 vinyl? I need something strong that comes in 6 and 12 inch rolls mostly.

Sounds like you need better instructions for your customers.  You DON'T pull the decal off the backing..You will actually lift the paper off doing that. And then you will have paper stuck to the back of your decal.  You ALWAYS peel the backing away from the decal. It is a huge difference.   Squeegee front of decal good.   Lay decal face down and peel the backing away.     I actually write it on the decal.   And I use Main Perfect Tear medium tack paper tape for years.

Yep. 651 is particularly picky like that. I sometimes run the decal over a counter corner face down to kind of loosen it up a bit just before install. I believe I even watched a tutorial from Oracal or USCutter about pulling the backing up like Mz Skeeter said.

Make sure that you are not cutting into the backing paper too.

Ok is the main perfect tear stronger?

I don't know anything about Greenstar tape....  I have always used either R-Tape  or Main, medium tack, paper tape, with no problems.  I have used Main for quite some time now..  It is how you do it...that makes the difference.  Also as stated above, cutting too deep in the backing, pushes the vinyl into the backing..which makes the vinyl stick more to the backing.  Should only be a slight mark on the wax paper backing.

I think "Greenstar" is a house brand name being used for some  USCutter products.  Hard to say what companies really make it.....

I use greenstar in house because it's way cheaper but anything RTA I use RTAPE 4076RLA. Just seems to grab the vinyl a lot better but like Mzskeeter and everybody else said pulling the wrong way will cause issues no tape can overcome.

Getting every customer to do as the intructions say is not full proof. If they dont listen they still expect sellers to replace it.

It is not fool proof, dealing with customers, never is.. BUT even YOU didn't know how to do it correctly,  The seller,,,  So how is a customer to know?   At least point them in the right direction if you don't want to continue having problems.  This is why I write it on the decal,, takes less than a minute   7 years now,,  no complaints about this problem...and I have sold thousands..  OR just keep on doing what your doing,  and get complaints.

I use Greenstar in house myself. Never had a problem with it. And I use a LOT of it. I used to use Perfect Tear like Skeeter but the last log I bought about 2 years ago was stringy as hell and I stopped using it.It could have been a bad lot but as much as I use I don't take chances.

The greenstar tape definitely helps the bottom line when you use a ton of it.

Only issue I have that prevents me from using it for RTA is that it doesn't adhere to the release liner

I guess you need to tell GreenStar to change it then. ~smirk~
