smendlik 113 Posted July 1, 2014 I already planned to go with nothing more than the cash for the presses and my drivers license. Figured if it is a robbery they won't get much, possibly my car I guess. Maybe I should take a witness, someone I can run faster than so I have a chance at getting away.
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted July 1, 2014 This is the second time in 2 years that somebody was killed off CL ads. Last time was Charleston area and they took his truck after they shot him. They caught these guys but only because the man survived 6 hollow points in the chest and called 911. They shot his brother in the back of the head first. Wasn't trying to scare you just be aware of your surroundings and remember that most people are honest non murdering individuals.
smendlik 113 Posted July 1, 2014 It's more than the second time. There was a guy lured via a CL ad here near Cleveland, he answered an ad for a job and two guys were there to meet him, dragged him into the woods and killed him. Scary stuff.

smendlik 113 Posted July 1, 2014 Yep, that be the one. Sad world we live in today. Is the violence getting more prevalent or just more known due to more available coverage?
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted July 1, 2014 I think the global instant coverage shows us more than we used to see but the bad economy brought about a lot more crime.
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted July 1, 2014 now we have to worry about the ebay killers if this turns bad - - - I think as jay said be aware and stay safe - walk away if things look bad - that is the attitude we went in with when stacey and I bought our first printer in flint mi - bad area - turned out great though. rich kid going thru divorce and wanted big thing gone from living room! jaybyrd 3,770 Posted July 1, 2014 I try to be aware of my surrounds as t all times not just when meeting someone for a sale. Just a good habit to get into.personally I think it's so easy to track a ebay seller than a craigslist seller that it would be far less likely the ebayer would be dangerous
djque 246 Posted July 1, 2014 that add seems fishy geo knight and press for $50. either it dont work or its stolen.

MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted July 2, 2014 My brother has dealt with Ebayers coming and going, pick up sales, for years,,at his house, and has never had a problem, He deals with the John Deere bigger yard tractors, smaller tractors selling and buying. He hauls 5th wheel trailers all over the US,as his job, and he will buy a JDeere on Ebay and get a load that direction..Pick it up, Then fix it up and sell it, So they come to his house and pick it up, or he delivers for a price. He also sells those JDeeres on Craigslist
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted July 2, 2014 if these were closer I would have been all over them - worth the risk with a little caution thrown in
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted July 2, 2014 Yes, my brother stays pretty busy with J Deere, But he is used to traveling, every where. He has done it for years...He has buyers on those J Deeres from everywhere, and he travels everywhere.
mr300s 1,272 Posted July 2, 2014 or the guy just made a mistake listing as he said no reserve - bet he meant to have an auction That what I told Carolyn I don't think they knew what they were doing the reason for the mess up on the shipping such a low price may have been her starting point and she messed up putting buy it now? I have a feeling that's the case and I have a strong feeling you will never hear anything because they just plain messed up... Maybe she figures it worth taking a chance with negative feedback rather than answer you . We will see ...
smendlik 113 Posted July 2, 2014 Well EBay swears I'm protected for this purchase so I went ahead and paid the extra $2.52 for the shipping and bought the presses. We'll see if I can contact the seller.

smendlik 113 Posted July 2, 2014 I tried to commit to buying with the option to pay upon picking up the item but that wasn't an option. I did fully commit to buying, after paying the shipping charges ($2.52). I heard from the seller who said they didn't want to ship as they have had too many problem when shipping heavy items. I have their e-mail address, street address, and phone number so I'm feeling pretty confident. Thanks to the power of Google street view I see that the neighborhood looks pretty good, not rundown or sketchy at all. I'll be going Saturday afternoon on my way to a graduation party.

smendlik 113 Posted July 6, 2014 Just a quick update...I picked up both presses today, all was as advertised. Hopefully I'll have time later this week to clean them up, check the temperatures, and figure out what I want to do with them!
mr300s 1,272 Posted July 6, 2014 That was a great deal anyway you look at it. If it was by me I would have bought them and I already have both of them

smendlik 113 Posted August 26, 2014 By the way, I fixed the press up a little bit, through it up on Ebay, and sold it for $330! Too bad Ebay now takes 10% for seller fees. I still made out really well though so I'm not complaining.
