Opening SVG files, "cut" lines

Recommended Posts

I traced an image in SCALP prior to buying AI CS6. When I export the file as an SVG and open in AI, there's a large box, four times bigger than the image, and the image is in the lower right part of the box. Is this box representing the "mat" in SCALP? Is there a way to get rid of it? When I saved the image I had it in the cut portion of the mat, and the ratio of the box and mat seem to be the same.

Also, when I look at the image, there's no interior "cut lines". It's just a solid image.

I have never used scalp.   However, the first two things that came to mind is that you need to ungroup, maybe more than once.  Also, try viewing in outline or wireframe mode to see were the paths are located.  Worse case scalp exported it as an embedded raster image, but I wouldn't think that would be the case.

Ya upload the file is going to be the best way for us to figure it out. There is often an outline or a clipping path when importing other files. In your layers panel you can click open the little triangles to view each sub-layer. As noted above, you may have to ungroup a few times to get things opened back up. You can usually grab that pesky box and delete it.

I know this is old but In the Layers column to the right click on the down button then delete the path and it should now highlight just you design but you can delete all the other layers thats in there . then it will delete your design. just go to edit and undo, after that close all the layers and go to the object window and group.
