Can I cut an image without the tile surrounding it???

I have messed around a bit and not no avail. I can not figure out how or if I can cut an image without the tile around it. I need to mask some painting masks and need more space around the image.

 

I have searched a little but didnt find anything useful.

You will probably also have to re-adjust your position on the vinyl also so it isn't too close to one side.
