jammoresigns 0 Posted April 14, 2014 Copam 2500 cutting 22mil rubber stencil. Is there a way to get signblazer to simply use the workspace dimensions as the sign size and make those dimensions the outside cut? Most of my signs are rectangular or square and for layout having the workspace actually be my sign size and cut size would be incredibly helpful. I tried borders, they cut wacky, and tried to use the square tool and punch through but all seem to have glitches. Can it be done? thanks ahead Jim
slice&dice 2,450 Posted April 14, 2014 What you are proposing makes no sense. There is no logic in wanting the cut vinyl to be the same dimensions as the substrate (sign). You need some negative space in from the edges of the substrate material (maybe as little as 1/2" or even as much as 2") If you want the stencil to be cut the same size as the sign, then set your workspace that way, but the stuff INSIDE the workspace will need to be offset away from the edges.
pshawny 410 Posted April 14, 2014 The workspace dimensions don't have much of anything to do with the actual cutting. It's just there as a visual aid What do you mean by glitches? Drawing a square and weld>punch through should work just fine. You could try taking a square and centering the text. (square and text different colors) Go to cutter, control>click to make sure both colors are selected in the upper left corner, then cut. You could also take just the number, then click cutter, and use "weed all" to have it cut a certain distance around the text.
Jay2703 704 Posted April 14, 2014 Make a rectangle the size of your workspace and a different color than your design. Use Arrange + Put to Back to make it like a background. Create your design on top of it. When you cut, select all of your design colors and the background color too. No need to punch through anything.
jammoresigns 0 Posted April 16, 2014 Hey, Thanks for the help. The reason I would like the workspace to be the sign size is that I am sandblasting letters and numbers in stone so the rubber protects the rest of the stone from the blasting. If I know my sign is 12x24 with text somewhere in that space It would be nice to set up the workspace to 18x24 put my text where I want. Then have it cut the workspace dimensions as the outside cut. I know you can get it to print. I will try the square idea again but just thought it could save me a step. So nice to just make the workspace my sign size. Your input is appreciated.and always helpful Jim
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted April 16, 2014 I make the workspace my sign size for visual clarity during design. For your application I would still do a box around the work the size you are wanting the outer reaches to be so it will leave enough protection around the edges. I have a sandblast cabinet too so I know what you are saying. The program won't automatically cut the outside of the mat or workspace unless you give it a line there. Jay2703 704 Posted April 16, 2014 Making it the size of what you're workinng on helps align it too.
