kboyte 2 Posted April 13, 2014 I am wanting to replace my laptop that is about to die with a Windows Surface PRo 2. Does anyone know if the signblazer program will work from a tablet? or if it runs on Windows 8?
Jay2703 704 Posted April 13, 2014 I have it running on Win 8.1 but it's a laptop with a touch screen.
slice&dice 2,450 Posted April 13, 2014 On a tablet? Not likely. SignBlazer was developed during the period of Windows98.
Jay2703 704 Posted April 14, 2014 I can't find anything that can't be done with just the touch screen on my laptop. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a surface. Does the surface have USB to connect to your cutter?
slice&dice 2,450 Posted April 14, 2014 I had to do some further research on the tablet called "Surface" --- it does have USB 2.0 port, so theoretically you could load the SBE application and maybe the drivers would work to run a cutter. This Pro version seems to be loaded with a full version of Win8, so it indeed should run SignBlazer. $1000. (I spent $79 on the used Dell laptop with XP that my cutter runs on)
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted April 14, 2014 same here, used Toshiba laptops with XP under $100. Very stable.
kboyte 2 Posted April 14, 2014 Thanks. I'm wanting a surface for other things too. Just wanted to see if I would be able to run SB on it. Thanks for the responses.
slice&dice 2,450 Posted April 14, 2014 After you buy it, come on back and let us know your experience and whether or not the cutter fires up. (I had to install a CDM driver for USB to communicate with my MH cutter properly -- your mileage may vary)
