iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm trying to get better at creating double layer decals so I'm trying to cut something for my daughter's nursery. However, when I go to cut, some of the cuts (mouth, eyes) are cutting into the background color and not the foreground color. Can someone point me in a better direction? I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Thanks in advance. ******Copyrighted image deleted by moderator**********

iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 When I try to cut that, It only has one color. I'm looking to cut so the black is one sheet and the "White" is layered on top with the black showing through. Is that possible?
bikemike 711 Posted April 5, 2014 Ya, use the file I posted. First just cut the black, then cut the purple color, then layer the purple on top of the black. Make sure you cut by color.
iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 When I first loaded the file, it only showed black. There was a rgb/cmyk issue.
iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 These are the screenshots of what the cutter sees when I select each color.

iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 What program do you use for plotting? When SignCut Pro opens it, it's very weird acting. Could it be a ScP issue?
bikemike 711 Posted April 5, 2014 I am using cutting master. It is only for a Graphtec. We need a sign cut person to join in.
skarekrow 1,842 Posted April 5, 2014 I opened the file above in SignCut... its screwy. Here it is in 2 color. (provided the mod doesn't remove it) SmileyFace_2color.eps SmileyFace_2color.svg

iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 Yes, evidently you are doing something wrong when vectoring the images. I use image trace in Illustrator. Is there a preferred method?
bikemike 711 Posted April 5, 2014 Ya, like skarekrow's. Except I would have done a black background and cut out the grey part for the eyes and mouth. Same thing, different approach.
bikemike 711 Posted April 5, 2014 Why are you tracing a vector image? Load the image, and send to cutter.
skarekrow 1,842 Posted April 5, 2014 I use image trace in Illustrator. Is there a preferred method? Many folks have complained about Illustrator's Trace engine... I'm not crazy about it either. I like and use Inkscape when tracing. It's free as well. Also, there are a few small bugs in the 0.48 version. I have stayed with 0.
iamandy 20 Posted April 5, 2014 I tried Inkscape, but it won't load correctly on my Mac. I guess I'll try it again.
