Not cutting colors right

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get better at creating double layer decals so I'm trying to cut something for my daughter's nursery. However, when I go to cut, some of the cuts (mouth, eyes) are cutting into the background color and not the foreground color. Can someone point me in a better direction? I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Thanks in advance.

Try this one.

Yours was not 2 colors. White don't count.

When I try to cut that, It only has one color. I'm looking to cut so the black is one sheet and the "White" is layered on top with the black showing through. Is that possible?

Ya, use the file I posted.

First just cut the black, then cut the purple color, then layer the purple on top of the black.

Make sure you cut by color.

When I first loaded the file, it only showed black. There was a rgb/cmyk issue.

These are the screenshots of what the cutter sees when I select each color.

That one has 3 objects in it.

What program do you use for plotting? When SignCut Pro opens it, it's very weird acting. Could it be a ScP issue?

I am using cutting master. It is only for a Graphtec.

We need a sign cut person to join in.

Yes, evidently you are doing something wrong when vectoring the images.

I use image trace in Illustrator. Is there a preferred method?

Ya, like skarekrow's.

Except I would have done a black background and cut out the grey part for the eyes and mouth.

Same thing, different approach.

Why are you tracing a vector image?

Load the image, and send to cutter.

Many folks have complained about Illustrator's Trace engine...

I'm not crazy about it either.

I like and use Inkscape when tracing. It's free as well.

Also, there are a few small bugs in the 0.48 version.

I have stayed with 0.47

I tried Inkscape, but it won't load correctly on my Mac. I guess I'll try it again.

Curious... were you trying to load the Mac version of Inkscape or the Windows version with an enabler like "WineBottler"?
