Recommended Posts

So I wonder, are there lots of people using Mac and not having any problems or are there just not that many using a Mac?

Please humor me respond if you see this, just list basic setup.

I use an iMac. Mostly just for design. I have MacSign which came with my Summa cutter but  really don't like the layout so I use SignCut Pro for cutting but I am running the cut software on a windows laptop because I didn't want my cutter tied to my desktop. It sits over in another part of the room. I think the reason there aren't many posts in this forum is just what you said, not a lot of problems. Sometimes I have had a little trouble finding the correct driver, I never did get my old P-Cut chinese cutter working off the mac. Didn't try too hard for the same reason I don't have my current cutter running off it.

One of these days I may invest in a Macbook to replace my current laptop. How do you like your Macbook Pro? I would hate to give up my 21" screen for design but maybe as a second computer. I use CS5 like you, been thinking about trying out the CC version. CS6 didn't bring enough to the table to justify the cost of the upgrade but the CC version has some cool stuff. I am just not a huge fan of using a cloud based program that you have a monthly payment on.

iMac 10.6.8 , SummaCut D75R, Illustrator CS5, SignCut Pro

I thought Signcut could import Corel files.

Probably...I am a full time graphic designer (decals are my hobby) and get Adobe software for free. I have used Corel before but Signcut also has an adobe plugin that I can send my finished .ai files with just a keyboard shortcut. It's quite nice. Prelayout in adobe and send to Signcut. Match made in heaven for a Mac user.

Graphtec Cutting Master 2 and 3 software same way. With Adobe and Corel plugin.    Except people get tired of paying for Signcut.  unless you have the dongle.

Please elaborate I've never heard of Graphtec Cutting Master? I got a free (been using it for 2 years so not sure how long it lasts) Signcut license with my cutter so never really looked beyond that.

Cutting master is a proprietary graphtec cutting program that they give you a basic version of with any graphtec cutter. Won't work on anything else that I'm aware of. Signcut Pro normally has a subscription and then if you would rather you can buy a dongle (usb Key) to own it for life. Dongle is about $300.

I use a 21.5 iMac with 16MB ram and 4 TB of storage.  I currently use the Graphtec CE-6000 which I love!  It took a little bit of compromise to get it up and running but it works great now.  I couldn't get my SignCut Pro to work with it, so I started using the included Cutting master software. I use CS5 to design and cut pretty much everything I do.  This is more of a hobby for me and I do commercial printing and sign work for a casino running their in-plant production facility as my day job.

10.9.2 Sign Cut Pro Ct630 cutter - my suggestion is to NOT go to 10.9. Everything worked great on 10.8 and earlier

iMac

Graphtec CE5000

Illustrator CS5

Cutting Master 3

Absolutely no issues. Switched from the Laserpoint and SigncutPro just a few months ago. I have no idea how I even used that set up. Every attempt to work on something had some sort of disaster along the way. SignCut is a mess, and I'm convinced the Laserpoint has a mind of it's own.

Love my new Graphtec!

I'm with you Skarekrow. I have had great success with Signcut Pro. So much so that I dropped the proprietary cutting program that comes with Summa cutters (very similar to cutting master that Graphtec gives out) and went back to Signcut.

Welcome to the Mac users guild AAndrew! I use CS5 as well. Great program.

I've had it for 2 years and have concidered purchasing the dongle this time around.

Not a minutes trouble out of it here, either... Does just what it was designed to do.

Sorry for the delay... Forgot I posted in here. I'm just not a big fan of signcut. Maybe it's a personal preference... I dunno. I used it for 2 years and was just never very happy with it. I was much happier with cutting master straight out of the box, but that could also be because I jumped from a laserpoint to the graphtec.

I create all signs, decals, heat vinyl designs in Adobe Illustrator and cut directly from Illustrator to a Graphtec FC-7000. Been doing this for 10+ years. I have a Powerbook G4, MacBook Pro 17" and a MacBook Pro 13". Been using Macs since 1988.

How is the lag time on the macbooks? I use an imac mostly but have been considering buying an additional macbook pro and was wondering if the processor bogs at all with illustrator? I know even my desktop will slow up sometimes when rendering large tracings or 3D images.

I use a 08 MacbookPro and an even older mini with CS5 and never noticed and lagging other than tracing a large multicolor design.

I also upgraded both to SSD hard drives and could not be happier.

Recently i've been using Microsoft Surface Pro to do everything. It's an amazing tablet... CS5, Corel Draw, iDesignR all work flawless.
