Roland Cut Studio doesn't cut all of the design

Recommended Posts

Since I've owned my GX-24 it has had an intermittent problem where it sometimes doesn't cut all of the design. It will start out fine, then just completely ignore parts of the file. Sometimes it will get partially through and andvance a bunch of vinyl and start cutting in a tiny little area about 1/4" wide. I have to shut the cutter off to get it to stop.

Any ideas what this might be?

never heard of static affecting a roland so I would probably start by replacing the usb cable with a new higher quality one to rule out communication problems.  if nothing else call roland support I am sure they can diagnose it - it is rare we see problems on here with roland or graphtecs latest cutters.

Thanks dakotagrafx.  I thought it might be the way I was setting up the files, since I have to backsave everything to Illustrator 3 EPS for Cut Studio to recognize them. I'll give it a try.  I just downloaded the plug-in for Illustrator CS6 and I'm going to see if that helps.

I'm looking at new cutters now, probably a Graphtec or the Roland professional line. I have a Roland serivicing dealer one mile from me so that's pretty convenient. They also work on my Roland 645 printer when needed.  I may just go ahead and get a printer/cutter instead. Cut vinyl is a very tiny portion or our business and I think a Roland print/cut would do just fine.

Thanks again.

even if you get a print/cut unit you will want to keep the cutter,  the print cut is no where near as quick and easy (nor I think good at) cutting regular stuff as a true cutter
