Problem Cutting

Recommended Posts

I’m having problems with my Vinyl Express R series II. I believe it’s called. It’s a smaller one, 15”. At times it makes random cuts into a vector. For example I made to small Transformer logos for my truck. Well I cut both at the same time, first one cut fine. The second one was going smooth and then boop…it just cut a line across the face of it. This happened before when I cut a much bigger project. Just starts cutting a random diagonal line then continues cutting how it should. Ive wasted an entire 10 yard roll of vinyl because of this. The strange part is I’ve cut a 14” x 14” Blackhawk Head with no problem. Ive read up on this a bit and found it might be a memory issue? How do I know for sure if that’s it and or how do I fix that?

Please Please Please Can anyone help me?

You could always use paper and put a pin in the blade holder.

Static could also be an issue. The vinyl can build up a charge and unless it has a place to go it will discharge through the blade. Most people ground their stand/viny holder to the plotter.

I hate that it's something you can't really test unless you waste vinyl. Grrrr...

$5 roll of paper in the paint section of Lowes or Home depot and the pin plotter.  I can afford to test and play all day with this setup.

Ya man paper is where its at. Each machine seems to have its own quirks. I ran a P-Cut for a couple years and I couldn't do more than about 8 or 10 copies of anything or it would just freeze up. Also had a lot of static electricity issues like Darcshadow mentioned. Try a Dryer sheet to remove static in the area. I eventually bought a can of static guard spray and would do a shot around the back and under the machine before I cut. That pretty much cured the worst of my craziness.

I have a GRC-61 that does the same thing if you don't clear the buffer, if your plotter doesn't have a clear buffer option anywhere, kill it and re-boot.

I'm new in this.

I just got  my Vinyl Express R series II, it came with the "Vinyl Express® LXi Apprentice".

I had the same problem many of you described. Getting a lot of random lines.

I thougth that my EPS files where wrong.

Change to several versions but with no luck.

I then decided to get the Flexi Sign Cloud Subscription... and same problem...

At this point I thought that the problem will be the cutter.

"Vinyl Express® LXi Apprentice" and Flexi are from the same company.

SOLUTION:

1. I changed the speed to cut on the cutter panel to 300

2. When you press the plot/cut option you have an option that is 10 inches enhanced cutting.

This option is checked by default. Unchecked this option, this will cut all elements in the order elements where created.

This fixed the problem for me.

Hope this will help.

I bought a Key Span and everything worked and has been working perfectly.

I'd get one Qaquinonez, you never know. It's worth it.

OK, I am having something similar. It is not making "random" cuts but it is slicing two horizontal cuts in each letter or shape I try to cut. Tried turning it off and on, tried pressing reset and tried to located this Enhanced cutting option mentioned above but did not find it.

I'm using a USCutter LP II with the "Sure Cuts A Lot" software. Any help would be appreciated.

txwayno. My guess is your software isn't activated. In demo mode it will cut lines thru your design.

Kysign, you are correct, it is not activated yet. Didn't have web access at the time I loaded it. I'll take care of that abd try again, thank you!
