Losing detail after Bitmap Trace

Recommended Posts

So, I have a crown that I'm am trying to use and when I trace it in inkscape, I lose a lot of the detail.  Its not THAT small so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any info would be great!

The first is the original

The second is after its traced with Edge detection selected and a .20 Threshold

Thank you

I forget what the first option on the list is but that the one I usually use. I believe the default is 0.45, I usually give that a try but often find 0.6 give me a better image. I've never been pleased with the edge detection on any of the images I've tried it on.

I downloaded your file enlarged it and turned it into a vector for you... Do you have an email I can send it to, the file is to large to upload

You have to play with the threshold. I recommend to everyone to do at least 10 traces with different thresholds until you get one with the least amount of nodes and the most detail. I also dont suggest making the image larger before you trace it, just zoom way in there so you can see.

No matter what tracing software is used, there is always node editing to be done.
