1st piece powder coated

Recommended Posts

I got into Powder coating about 3 years ago and I wanted a cutter so I can make stencils for powder coating. Here's the first piece I turned out with my new cutter. This is for a powder coat display I am putting up at work, Roeder Racing is the name of the shop I work at and the streamliner represents the Land Speed record our shop got at Bonneville Salt Flats back in the 50's. I appreciate all the help i've gotten here in teh short time i've been here, with any luck i'll beable to help a newbie out in the future.

is that under the clear coat

Actually there is NO decal on it. In the Skull one I hot the whole part white and full cured, then applied the skull graphic, then shot the black. I let the black partial cure, then removed it from my oven and removed the decal revealing the white. Then it was back in the oven for the full final cure.

Those are really nice. Are you doing this at home or do you have a shop set up? I'm wanting to do powder coating out of my garage and wanted to talk to someone about it.

I do this out of my home shop. I built my own oven 4'w 3'6"d and 6'6"t and build my spary booth. I can post pictures tonight when I get home. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions and help you in any way possible.

Here's the oven I made. I started out with an old house oven but the teps don't stay very consistant so I decided to build this one. I am running a fully digital control that keeps the oven +- 1 degree of what I have it set at.

That was the final produce. I coated the part all white, then applied the skull decal, then coated the black, partial cured it in the oven then removed the decal and full cured the part.

The bottle was the first piece I did with this process, so it was a trial. Here's the finished piece. It's a horn cover that goes on the side of a Harley Davidson.
