Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken the time to read about this? I have, and I decided to do my truck! So far with coat #2 on, everything looks very promising at this point!

Here is some reference links -

What is your goal? Are you now trying to paint a car instead of wrap?

Check out www.autoaircolors.com for some relatively inexpensive auto paint. I use this paint on my jetskis and friends jetskis and helmets. It has held up quite nicely plus it is non-toxic unlike urethane paint. Just need to put a urethane clearcoat over it and it looks fab!

I tried Hexis vinyl on the truck........ too many wrinkles, tears, stretch, and other blems. So, I want my truck black bottom and white topped. The decals I plan on laying on the white bits are going to be black to contrast. So, yes I am laying paint down. Good old fashioned Rustoleum oil based paint.. :D

Did you use a heat gun or torch to shrink and stretch the vinyl when applying it to the truck? That's how you get the wrinkles out.

Are we feeling self concious? Not ignoring you, but waiting to see the finished product. I haven't seen anything other than your original post to comment on.

I will say I'm anxious to see the finished product. I watched a couple of the videos and was impressed. I just wonder on a larger item like your blazer with all the nooks and crannys if it will be anywhere as simple as the video implied. With all of the coats and sanding/buffing in between, might be just as easy to do with a rattle can.

I'll say that, this is my first vehicle I have ever painted with Rustoleum. Yes, there are flaws, and blems that I need to touch up. But, it is a 10 footer. I have to do the final wet sand with 1,000 grit, and then polish it up. I have done test spots of polishing, and I am happy with the results thus far (very smooth paint!). Tricks I learned for next time, remove anything that is screwed down. This includes tail lights, headlights, door handles, trim, etc.. Otherwise, the tape might catch the paint when pulling off and then it needs touch up! Dont ask how I learned that.... :D LOL
