New user registration suggestion

Recommended Posts

With the mass amount of spammers registering and flooding the forums with posts, maybe the registration process needs to be changed. Require approval? Or something to stop these idiots.

I suggested requiring approval and we did it for awhile. Then for some reason, it was dropped.

I totally agree. I spent over an hour in the middle of the night last night trying to ban members I thought might be spammers (the russian IP is a giveaway) before they could post. And I am a non paid volunteer.

I had to set my forum to approval awhile back, the spammers were killing me. Now I have Spam-O-Matic installed and it's cut waaaayyyy down on spammers.

yeah we are supposed to have excellent spam filters too.

If we could just ban all IP from Russia, it would take care of the problem to a large degree. As far as I know we don't have a single legitimate member in Russia.

I'm not sure if Invision Power has that feature. I know vBulletin will let you ban whole country IP's.

As your sig says -- "Guardian of the gate"

I still think it's hilarious that the thread which announces the new rules actually had a spam post in it immediately!

(Warseseda gave us a VIAGRA link)

To which I can only say --- "KEEP UP" the good work, guys! (pun intended)

After the holiday weekend, I am pretty sure things will level out and the Forum will be more secure and cleaner.

Happy Labor Day to all.

The thing is, I'm pretty much here all alone on the weekends. USC mods don't work Saturdays and Sundays.

I thought it was funny, that all this spam is going thru,, and I went to reply to a message. and I get this: I sent my reply, but it was never posted. LOL

This post will need approval from a moderator before this post is shown.

Skeetz, you probably replied to a newly-registered user, and from what I understand, that means it will need to be approved.

I say we have ALL new registrations make a Youtube video of themselves hopping up and down on one foot while rubbing their tummy and tops of their heads for a minimum of 15 seconds. Any shorter, and they might be spam!! :D
