bmxmadman2001 0 Posted August 15, 2012 I have been around the boards for a while but have never posted before. My wife bought me a MH series plotter about a year and a half ago. I have been using that thing non-stop since then. I am mainly in it as a hobbyist to make a little extra on the side. Right now I am only limited to just doing die cut vinyl. One of the main reasons that I am now posting is to figure out a new setup to acquire. I really want to get into doing printed vinyl decals/stickers. Now I know some of the logistics, but I am having some trouble piecing together a new setup. Not looking for anything large just yet. Figured a 12" plotter with contour cutting will work for me, but would still consider a 24". The two main things that are holding me up are a printer (and the supplies to use for it), and a laminator (and how to use it). So, thanks for having me, and if you have any suggestions on a new setup for me let me know. If not guess I'll sink more money into my car! - Josh
haulin 10 Posted August 15, 2012 The cost of a printer makes "part time or hobbyist" tough. I tossed around the idea of a Roland BN-20 to do decals, stickers, small printed signs, etc but it's still a $9000 investment. After a bunch of homework and all the pro's and con's I just bought a Roland PC600. It may not be fast, it may not be the most cost effective method, but for the money it get's me started in the world of print. Plus I have a good local source to outsource larger printed jobs and they are very affordable.
bmxmadman2001 0 Posted August 15, 2012 I would like to find a Toshiba or Ricoh printer that I can use. My dad's compay deals in those, but when I ask him about stuff like this he has no idea what to recommend.
haulin 10 Posted August 15, 2012 I have a wide format Epson desktop printer that I put a continues ink system on that I tried. It's the type of ink that they use that is the issue. The Epson uses pigment ink and while I have found vinyl to print on and the proper laminate if it get exposed to water it seeps in between and causes an issue. For indoor use it does work fine though.
