Reflective Signs

I have a job to do some reflective snowmobile trail signs. What would be best....solid reflective background with non reflective lettering? Or Non reflective background with reflective lettering? Ive seen it done both ways.

If you're not doing both reflective, I would use the reflective background and non-reflective lettering.

a fellow sign-maker and i have done a few small ones and mimicked standard road signs with pretty good results. the road signs we looked at are a super reflective backing with a translucent vinyl over top. for example the typical green highway signs (or at least the one we had to go off of) was reflective white with green vinyl over top. the green was over the whole thing with the letters cut out to expose the white. i'm not sure where he got the backing material but the signs we had came out almost spot on to the real thing. gives you another option.

My though was if I used reflective background I would get the best bang for my buck but not have much if any waste from weeding. As long as the non reflective lettering shows up im happy with that.

Does anyone have a reflective recommendation? I was looking at the Oralite 5500

What is the lifespan rating on printed reflective ?

not sure. i know it's over a year with out fade so far.

You could also buy the reflective blanks probably cheaper than a roll of reflective vinyl unless you have another use for it or a lot of signs to do.
