Logo and Vinyl Graphic Pricing

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

New user here, I bought my Copam cp-2500 from here a few years ago, and wondering if you all can help me out.

I just designed a logo for a customer of mine and put graphics on his van. The logo design included the main logo, along with files for business cards, invoices, t-shirts, and hats. The vinyl graphics consisted of one work van, i'm attaching pictures so you all can see the scope of work.

What I would like to know is what those that have had a lot of experience in pricing would do this job for. I have mainly done vinyl for friends and few small jobs here and there, so I'm fairly lost when it comes to pricing my work. It should also be added that I drove to meet with him 3 times regarding the logo design and went to his house to apply graphics as it was more convenient for him.

What would you charge for the logo design and the vinyl as an out the door price? I know what I charged him, but I have a feeling I'm really low. Thanks for your help!

I guess all I'm looking for is a decent way to bid out jobs, and how to charge for logo design. I'm just getting started in the business side of this(not doing things for friends), so any help would be appreciated.

Everyone charges by the material it takes times your expected profit marjin plus your labor rate per hours for clean, prep and set up...

IE: if your labor rates $45 / hr and it took you 1 hour to install tab $45 buck to the bill..

Then if your vinyl costs are $5.50 per square foot and you had 10 sq/ ft add another 55.00 to the bill and so on..

It's not easy to tell what others charge as each place here has a different mark up and different over heads...As you say some are in a hobby business and some are in business for a living...

As of late when someone on here quotes prices out theres an amazing amount of drama that ensues about how this person would'nt turn on a printer for that or that person should be out of business that they would never do the job for that...

Seems to be difficult to discuss pricing here lately due to the I'm gonna give you a lot of crap because your either higher or too low round here scenerios...

Hope it helps..The best advice would be if your happy with what you charged who cares what others do!!If the price made your feel like you made money then great if not shop your local competition and adjust accordingly...

As far as logo design i recommend you figure out how much per hour you feel is fair and how long the entire process took from concept to finished graphic design.

otherwise you can go online and google logo design, look at a few other companies, their process and what they charge as a guide.

That too is a touchy subject. Based on your experience, location time and involved you should be able to be in a happy medium and make money.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, this is some great info. Seems like I must be a little on the low side for labor.

I do have one more question, say I need 1 1/2 24"x10yard rolls(I don't keep any vinyl in stock, simply order it as i need it), do I charge for 2 rolls to not cut into my profit margin?

I feel like I'm micro managing a bit here, but I got hosed the first time I quoted a price and never want to end up in that situation again.

I never order any material for a job by the half roll..If it takes you to order several rolls for the job, the job should pay for all of it...Otherwise your out extra profit by having to pay for the excess...

As a rule...The job should pay for all ordered supplies...
