my trick for weeding white vinyl

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to this and been making a few decals on white vinyl and found it very difficult to see the cut lines to weed.

I had a piece of ash fall from a cigarette onto the vinyl and as I was wiping it away found it made the lines stand out easier for me to see where to weed.

So now I just stick the tip of my finger into the ashtray and gently wipe it across the entire pattern to make the lines stand out and now I can weed without needing a bright light and magnifying lens.

I don't see that it leaves the edges dirty or fouled in any way, just as clean as without.

I even tried a bit of dust from the table and that works just as well.

Hope this tip helps someone with eyes as poor as mine see the lines better.

I have read black pepper also works on white & flour works on dark colors .

The chalk line powder does sound like it would be the best .

or blue chalk line chalk in a sock

chalk powder in a sock is so easy! And cheap. The sock is what makes it convenient. Just rub the sock across the vinyl.

Talcum powder is just as good as chalk. Forget the pepper unless you want to sneeze the decal away. :D :D

Try ORACAL white, they give it a blue liner for easier weeding.

FDC has a blue backed white vinyl as well. Crystal White is what they call it.

so does General Formulations vinyl, have the blue liner, also named Shinerite, and other vinyl suppliers put their own name on it for their house brand.    EarlMich calls it EMC 501

I've never had an issue with white, but yeah I use Oracal 651. I also use decent lighting when weeding complex jobs and just take my time with it.
