xJoey Dubsx 42 Posted November 27, 2010 First off, how come when you request free samples you get huge rolls of material... but when you pay for them you get a little sheet? haha Requested a sample of glass etch and got a 6"x400' roll of glass etch from MacTac, and bought a sample of some static clings from papilio.com, I get a peice of 8.5"x11"? Anywho, both worked out really good, and really happy with the results.... My free sample of the glass etch vinyl... First attempt on a spare mirror my brother gave me he was going to throw away... Note: The border is really etched, so shows the quality of the fake vs. real. http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00317-20101125-1308.jpg[/img] My other brother saw it, like it, so this went on his dresser mirror... http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00318-20101125-1338.jpg[/img]
xJoey Dubsx 42 Posted November 27, 2010 Then comes the static cling last night.. As you may have see, I posted here asking if people do printing on them, but I decided to buy a sample of it, which cost me $5 for two sheets, one of clear and one of white... Trying to get my buddy's work to buy these, rather than paint their windows with the advertisements... Figured this is reuseable this way... Plus they pay someone to do it for $7.50 each car, and I can mark these up a decent amount and them still save money over the course of the year. Also, they have a program where if someone saves them money, they get half of a years worth of difference as a bonus.. So we both win. After just cutting the background of static cling... White done: http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00327-20101126-2359.jpg[/img] http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00329-20101127-0856.jpg[/img] Clear background: http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00325-20101126-2216.jpg[/img] http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac328/xjoeydubsx/3am%20customs/IMG00328-20101127-0044.jpg[/img]
Jay2703 704 Posted November 27, 2010 Those look good. I started using cling vinyl for holiday window decorations. The hardest part is keeping the cling vinyl down on the backing while removing the app tape of the regular vinyl you layer on top.

Jay2703 704 Posted November 27, 2010 Another issue I found was seeing the cut lines of the clear cling vinyl to layer on top of it. I figured out how to contour cut with my cutter even though it doesn't have ARMS or a laser. I bought a 10 yd roll of cling vinyl from SignWarehouse for $20. rayray1039 0 Posted November 30, 2010 Thanks for posting this, I never get tired of the new tech or technique! How are the clings holding up? Have you noticed any deformation or warping? $5 for two letter sized sheets seems a bit pricey.. any recommendations for rolls? I also put in a request for material samples, thanks for the heads up! No problem! How are they holding up? They are still on the backing, lol. These were examples for my buddy's work to try to get an order. I am thinking of making them mirrored to put inside of the glass too. And yes, that's pricey. I've had others find cheaper rolls, I thought it would be pricey...
