Trying to Set up Mh-871 on laptop- cannot get computer to recognize the cutter!

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated it is unreal. I am pretty good with computers- but I know nothing about drivers and stuff.

I unpacked all the stuff in the box, got the stand together in a few minutes. THe cutter powers on-although everytime I turn it on the cutter head goes all the way far right and hits the little red button! I insert the cd-rom and find the thing to download from the cd. When I click on the install section it runs through a couple of things and tells me this

"The drive is successfully Pre-Installed in advance! Please insert the device. And select automatically install in the <FOund New Hardware Wizard >dialog box, ignore the warning of <windows logo testing>, click the <continue anyway> button until finishing"

When I connect the usb cable to my laptop, nothing happens! Its like my laptop is not recognizing the cutter at all or that it is even connected!

I am so lost! If ANYONE out there can help me I would truly appreciate it! Please PM me!

I am so excited to gert started and this is just making it worse!

The cutter is not plug & play.  Windows will not recognize it like it will a printer and automatically set it up.  You have to figure out which USB port it's connected to and enter that port in your software.  I think you can go to device manager and watch the USB pot list as you plug in the cable.  You should see a port appear when the cable is plugged in.

That said...I don't know why USC doesn't just admit that USB on these cutters is problematic at best.  If you want trouble fee install and operation, use a serial port.  No drivers to install, just select the plotter in your software and cut.  If you don't see it listed in your software, select the PNC-1000 Roland driver.

Actually, it is plug and play.  But it does not install as a printer, it installs as a com port.

Most software is able to detect it (signblazer and signcut both do) when you look at the output device setting - look for usb serial.

Windows should only "react" the first time you plug in the cable.  after that you should only hear the usb sound (if you have speakers and sounds on).
