MrMopar64 47 Posted June 12, 2010 Not sure what the z chip is... but most changeable chips have a notch cut out of one end if you put the new one in with the notch in the same way you should be good to go... MM64

Guest HowardI Posted June 25, 2010 The "Z Chip" is the chip that regulates carriage vertical motion. It controls the up signal, and the down signal. If the knife goes up upon power up but will not go down, this is likely the culprit. It can be the culprit even if there is no movement vertically but in this case its not the only possibility. It's easer and faster and to ship this chip than to have someone replace their entire motherboard. ekcetera 0 Posted July 26, 2010 Just replaced the ZChip on the MH-721. Now, the head doesn't move at all. Before, it was springy - you could push it up or down with your finger. Now, it's very stiff - it will move up or down, but there's resistance when you press on it and it doesn't move at all when cutting. Could it have been installed wrong? Could something else have happened when it was installed to be causing this? Thanks.
