Flexi won't cut? (Not sure what the issue is here)

Recommended Posts

I've setup several versions with several different cutters of Flexi for friends, decided to do it myself now.

After realizing USB probably wasn't going to work (Windows 7 64-bit), I remembered my comp had an LPT port.  Hooking them both up, the computer, flexi, and cutter (USCutter MH-871) all seem to be playing nice but....

When the job sends in production manager, after it says "Cutting..." it never actually does anything.  Nothing happens!

Not sure what's wrong here?  Can someone help me diagnose the problem?

I would also like to add that randomly the jobs seem to go all the way though and it says "Cutting... 100%" and it says the job is finished.  It's the same situation where the cutter is doing absolutely nothing.

The info is not getting to your machine, but I guessed you noticed that,it can be because of not having it in right format to send even though it appears in production manager.

So 1st try just typing a few letters on blank new screen in flexi, and that will rule out above, if production manager says it cutting.

Was your friends using W7 64 bit ? and you are using 8.6v2 ?

Personally I always find the serial port direct from computer  (no usb converter) works best, no cable length problem with could be another factor is your  under 3 -4 feet.?

When production manager shows its sending (cutting) dose the lcd panel on cutter flicker very slightly ? if so that shows the machine is getting job sent to it but doesn't understand what to do with it cause its in wrong format, or getting garbled at the port.

Try uninstalling everything deleting port etc restart with machine plugged in dose it say its found new port / hardware ?

it was my understanding that all of the drivers are handled through flexi and there is no need for a driver to be installed via windows.  the other machines i hooked up i've always used a COM port....  which my pc doesn't have. ;)

When initially turning on my machine and loading up flexi, trying to print a few letters of text the very initial job that I send right after opening everything up, the cutters offline/pause light turns on very briefly.

after that first job though it just goes through the steps 'holding...' 'done.'

doing some quick testing, i can get the offline/pause light to turn on every time i hit the reset button by sending a job, and the machine is communicating because if a job gets stuck at "cutting... 0%" and i shut off the machine, the job becomes cancelled.

i would also like to add that i have a USB cable for this machine as well, but the drivers cd that came with it has no vista/7 drivers on it.  is there any chance any of the other drivers might work?

myrmidon, in production manager make sure the option is to "Send now" and not set to "Hold in list". Refer to picture. GL

Alright, I fixed it.  I'm not sure if it was the LPT port, or the fact that I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

Here are the steps I took.

NOTE: I could not get this working with the LPT port, I HAD to use USB.

After installing Flexi and making sure my cutter is cutting correctly (I used the machines test function)..

Install this driver...

If you're using a USCutter plotter like me, make sure you install the drivers for Flexi. (sticky at the top http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php/topic,19054.0.html)

Next, load up Flexi and type in something to cut (something like 'testing')...

Hit Ctrl+L to send it to the Production Manager...

After the Production Manager loads, say you want to print locally (unless it's on a network, then configure it as-so)...

If you've already configured something, then go ahead and click "Add Setup..." if you haven't, it should automatically have you set it up...

Make sure you've clicked the Vinyl Plotter button at the bottom so you can access it, now, find your plotter and click on next...

After installing the USB drivers and connecting the USB port, Windows will say it's installing drivers.  It should install 2 of them, the second one should say (COM3) in parenthesis just like that.  When you're setting up the machine with Flexi make sure you select the COM3 port.

After setting it all up with the COM3 port it should just print right away!

So why yell that someone suggested the serial port when you said your tried the parallel port?   LPT = Parallel

I wasn't yelling at anyone, I was just kind of frustrated.  My computer doesn't actually have a serial (COM) port.  I did a USB -> USB connection between the cutter and my pc.  The drivers I installed just set it up as located in COM3.
