Received my 3rd cutter and still problems

Cheap enough....worth a shot. Any idea how they reduce RF interference?

I'm still curious if you'd have this problem out on the patio or front porch or something..somewhere near the house/apt. but outside of it.

A: It's the neighbor with the linear amp on his CB or ham operator nearby with the beams pointed right at your house!

B: the government is conducting an experiment near your house similar to the Philadelphia experiment

C: Transformer to your and neighbors house is not grounded causing interference to your two houses

D: Ghost are not happy the new neighborhood is built on their old turf

E:  Ok I'm outta ideas . . . .

Florescent lighting, neon lighting . . .if it did it on battery power without the ups plugged in it must be EFI!

Wife said maybe build a EFI resistant work area like gene Hackman in enemy of the state

gotta come up with ridiculous stuff as I am totally baffled

This is just crazy.. Good luck on getting it fixed.. I cant think of anything else..

How big is this neighborhood you live in? You mentioned it was inbetween some mountains.. Maybe it has something to do with that? Thats why its happening at the neighbors as well.. Something underground  or a large power station near by?

Maybe it's the cable usb or serial if there is a bad ground you might get that. A cheap way to check for RF: Raise the volume on your stereo, a good one will have low or no hum, if there is any interference you should hear a louder hum or a wine. If you hear a steady tone then definitely there's a problem.

I applaud you demeanor Mader :huh::o . I have seen others with so much drama over the smallest things . You are taking this the best I have ever seen .

The ferrite RF suppressor is a good idea.  Put it as close to the cutter as possible.  Power cables can act like an antenna and pick up signals from nearby transmitters.  The ferrite is powered metal pressed into a ring.  It forms a transformer using the wires thru the center and high frequencies are absorbed by the core but low frequencies (like the 60hz power) pass right thru.  Oddly enough the MH doesn't have one of those internally.  Some cutters do.

I'm really hoping it fixes it.  If it does you MAY have to get another core to put on the USB cable.

Good Luck Mr. Phelps!

The ferrite core is a good Idea I would place it on the USB/Serial cable.

lue,  If I remember reading back he was getting the same results without the cables using the test cut and the same issues existed

Lueman,

That won't help.  It's not connected to the computer right now.  Just power.

That's why I advised him that if it resolves the problem putting one no the power cord that he should get a second one for the USB.

I was cutting some names and numbers last night and I had slowed my cutter down for some smallar fonts. I slowed it down to 16in/sec and noticed the lines were like your test cuts, but when I changed it back to the normal 24/in speed it was fine agian. Have you tried setting your speed faster?

Yes I have adjusted the speed from 8 in/sec to to 24+ many times.

I'm going to pick up the ferrite core after I teach my last class. I'll let you know how it goes, so should i put this as close to the cutter on the power cord or closer to the outlet?

Hi Howard,

Given a lack of direct contact with the customer, I have to accept the situation as is, but Wow it's really beyond me that RF is a problem, you'd have that happen to a lot more people, and given it's so easy to fix I don't see why the manufacturer wouldn't address this long ago. I really think we have over thunk the problem , But I'm good with whatever works!

We're trying to find the solution not posting random stuff into my thread. Please stay on topic.

I'm still game for someone to come to my house and help with my situation. I'd really like to fix it here instead of driving to someone elses house, the problem is at my house so figuring at my problem here would be a better idea imo.

American and proud, wasn't directing that to you, sorry. I'm talking about the random posts with pictures that don't help me solve my problem.

And yes, your's looks like mine.

On Topic:

A Faraday Shield is  a metal enclosure grounded to earth ground. It's a step up from a ferrite core and it helps to reduce self-induced harmonic RF. Basically take aluminum foil place it arround the outside of the electronics enclosure and ground the foil. if you still have the problem then it's definitely NOT RF. Stay cheerful life gets better!

I hope there is a better answer than building a freaking Faraday cage around his cutter.  I don't hold much hope for the ferrite core either.

Check that the outlet is not wired in reverse, although it would be pretty unlucky if all of your outlets and neighbors outlets are wired in reverse.  Use something like this:  http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3099774&CAWELAID=166610897

Have you tried different USB cords?

American and Proud, does yours always do that?  I would say there is a problem with that also.
