Received my 3rd cutter and still problems

Recommended Posts

So the first cutter I had I sent back, they tested it and replaced the carriage. I receive the 2nd one and same problems. So I send back the second one and they send me an entirely new cutter. Hook it up, not even to the computer and still cutting jagged. So i hook it up to the computer to do a test cut and plot, it's the same results. I'm clueless. I checked the carriage to make sure it's on track, I checked the arm that holds the blade and pen, I tightened the tension on the belt some so there wasn't as much slack. I mean seriously, what is going on?

Here is the thing, I took the machine out of the brand new box, sat it down, plugged it in, and hit test cut. I did not plug in the usb cord to the computer at all.

I will upload pics now. Give me a minute.

Dang, I see what you mean.  Where do you live?  Is it really dry there?  Maybe it's static.  Have you tried putting a little lube on the rollers?

I live in Ohio, the temperature in my office right now is 67-68 degrees, and the machine is on hard wood floors. This cutter is BRAND NEW just opened the box an hour ago and plugged it in and these are the test cuts and plots, and is not hooked to a computer at all.

Vinyl is just the BGS for testing, and the blades are the ones that came with the machine. The plotter is the one that was included as well.

Others use the same hardware and achieve perfect results, so I wouldn't see why i would be the exception.

show some pictures of your blade and holder,  that blade should just be able to barely see. and hook it up and set your offset.

I can't even make mine do that on purpose.

I don't know what USC can do short of sending someone out to Ohio and set it up for you. I would just ask for another cutter(not the same, a different brand)

BannerJohn, too funny! I know right, Preston is sending me his extra cutter from Iowa to test it, he said it works perfect so if it doesn't when it gets here then there is something wrong.

All the electric in this house is brand new, using 20a outlets, and the machine is on hard wood floors.

im no expert but i would say you need to get it hooked up and set your blade offset

I would do this as well.  The blade offset could be causing this problem, and I believe the only setting for the offset is in the software.

Holy cow Mader..Windows 7..I have not gotten to play around with it yet...I did read where these were test cuts and not even hooked to a puter..I like your work though with the tshirts..Is that your primary business? I have been trying to get my own label started for some time just havent had the funds or time so far..Plus thinking of a brand name for them is a little rough...I appears that the cutter head is dragging and not fluid as it should be..I would check pressures and possibly some type of obstruction with the rollers( as with this being a new machine sometimes companies tape things internal so that they do not much during shipping) besides that I am lost..Have never seen anything like this before but I am a newbie..

Yes all test cuts, nothing hooked to a computer so Mac or Pc it's not seeing either.

I worked for a Design firm in Columbus Ohio then moved back to my home town where I grew up and got married and bought a house, worked for another guy doing design work and it went south with him so I opened my own up. I am now working and designing for Honda/Toyota, and also Fiesta Hair Salons across the country. I was recently hired at a full time faculty member at the college I graduated from to teach Graphic Design classes. So that is my primary more now.

But I checked, nothing is in the way. I just don't have a clue.

your blade does look like its out a little far, if I look at mine like that I can't even see the blade hardly.  course that doesn't explain the problem when plotting. like bannerjohn said, Ican't even make mine do that.

Well he is getting an even more pronounced swivel on the cut when he uses the pen attachment so I would have to say that it is not his blade/pen holder. This is so strange Mader. We rarely see this stuff on one machine.. but on 3 in a row? Maybe we should just talk about getting you a new machine. Check your PM's please.

This is a brand new machine sent from Illinois? New machine or different brand?

Do you keep cutting the same design or totally fresh, new ones each time?

If not, PM me and I'll send a simple design and see how that cuts for you. Looks like it's in the design IMO.

Guest, that's the test cut button design, nothing from the computer.

Pressure was adjusted down to 20g all the way up to 180 g.

Preston is sending me his 871 backup cutter that works fine, if it works then I know it's the cutter, if not then it's somehow on my end. But we're going switch it out with a better cutter if not.

you kept adjusting the force, but did you ever back that blade up so it is showing less?

One thought!

Have you removed the masking tape from the cut strip?
