cutter not finishing cut, with pics

Recommended Posts

Creakhead, apologies for hijacking here...

HowardI, the head on mine seems tight, but I am getting some front-to-back play in the arm assembly that clamps around the blade holder. Nothing side-to-side.

Is this something I can correct myself?

Thanks,

Daddy-o

cutme,

Tried both clockwise and counter-clockwise and the same problem remains. Just moved the unclosed gap 90 deg. around the square.

At least its consistent!

Appreciate the continued help.

There is a post in the laserpoint area about how some folks have reduced or eliminated that play in their machines.  The laserpoint uses the same carriage as the pcut does so check that out to see if you can clean that up.

As for those overshot corners I would set your offset to 0 and try again.  If the corners round off your offset is to high.  pick about half the number you currently have.

did you also check the belt for the feed roller or just the carriage?  There is a drive motor and belt in the right endcap of the machine.  Make sure this is tight too.

I'll keep working on ideas.

Thanks Howard, I'll give that a try when I get home.

I know the post you are speaking of. Assumed it would only address side-to-side play. Was not aware it would fix front-to-back, but hey... At this point I'm willing to try just about anything!

Drive belt is tight. Tigtened the carriage belt a few days ago. It was really loose, but it got me to the point that the pen was plotting correctly. Small victories!

Thanks again for your help.

Howard,

Tightening the bearings helped. I also reversed the spring steel the outer bearing rides on to provide a little more pressure (it was bowed ever so slightly in).

Between that and a .40MM blade offset, I'm getting three good 90 deg. corners now but still have that darn lazy close/gap evident in the pictures (albeit smaller now).

Small victories... but still open to suggestions on improving further!

Thanks again for the help folks,

Daddy-o

Try setting it back to .25 now and see what happens.  If it still seems to be off post a new pic.

If you set offset to 0 and use the pen then post that pic it might help more.  Make sure to note which direction on the pic is carriage movement.

so i tighten the belt and still the same. changing the direction of cutting just moves the position around. the end and beginning cuts are always off. this other guy has the same issue as me LOL somebody must know an answer.

i ordered a new cutting head so we will see if that fixes it.

also, does anybody know if having a cut up cutting strip could cause this?

I noticed that at offset 0 with the pen it looked good, am I correct?

If that is true I would order a new blade holder from the website.  Send the old one back in the same box and request warranty reimbursement.  Include the order number from the purchase of your cutter to validate warranty.

See if the new blade holder helps at .25mm

Howard,

Received the new blade holder from Levi today (appreciate the quick ship), but still a no go...

Spoke with Brandon earlier this evening and we have some time scheduled tomorrow to run through several more items.

Appreciate your hanging in there and I will be sure to keep everyone posted on progress.

Promised to keep everyone in the loop...

Brandon logged in last night, but we were unable to resolve the problem. Machine is on it's way back to Washington from Virginia.

Buggers are expensive to ship across country and I'm down for at least a week and a half to two weeks until the cutter is repaired or replaced.

Want to thank everyone for their help. Especially Brandon, Howard and Levi. Appreciate the patience guys.

Look forward to getting this up and running!

i noticed my lp24 does this same thing. the whole thing is less than 1/32 of an inch though. not nearly enough to cause any real problem.

bb,

That's about 8x's the 'repeatable precision' in the LP24's specs.

1/32" may not be much on a 2' x 8' banner, but it's an insurmountable problem cutting masks for R/C cars.

I know the machine is capable of that level of precision. I've seen the work of the folks who recommended the LP24 for the task and they are not experiencing the same thing.

Still waiting to hear back from Brandon, but I have to maintain faith in USCutter's promise to resolve the problem quickly.

Who knows... maybe we'll get a solution that'll solve your 1/32" gap as well!

Appreciate the support though.

I finally got a new blade cutter (from china) and some new 60 degree blades.  The results where way better then before but there is still some issue with the start and end spot (both with 45 & 60 degree blades). Its not quite matching up but the cut is a lot closer so things at least weed ok. Seem like for cutting graphics its meh.. ok, but for letters ( specially small ones ) its not so good.

Daddy-o thanks for the updates, I am very interested to find out what they find.

Unfortunately nothing Creakhead. Things went from bad to worse today... USCutter will be keeping the unit.

I could tolerate the 'twenty-something' sarcasm (barely) and even turning a blind eye a week-and-a-half ago when a tech rep told Levi, jokingly I hope, he was on the phone with "an obnoxious son-of-a-b#$%h that actually wanted his cutter to work"  - laugh it off, I need the guy's help I kept telling myself, think Levi was more embarrassed than I was - but the last straw came today when I was berated for assuming someone would follow through on the expectations they created. Silly me.

Simply not a pleasant experience and, unfortunately, no solution for the other folks who are having similar problems.

I appreciate everyone's help to this point though and sincerely wish everyone the best of luck in getting their PCut/LP's fixed. For now, I'm back in the market for another cutter.
