Recommended Posts

i have tried all the normal adjustments and nothing seems to fix it.

the end cut does not finish, it always rounds off. see pic.

and when i mess with the offset, you can see here that its not whats causing the issue. that one start stop point always seems to have a issue.

are you pulling the vinyl away from the roll, so that it is not tugging on it?  is the carriage head firmly on the track,?  make sure only a a bit of blade should be sticking out..  what cutting software are you using?..    start at 0 degree offset and work out at 5 degree  make sure cutting strip is down flat on the machine,  all the way across.

yes, it has plenty of vinyl pre pulled. also the carriage head is firm on the track, blade depth is set correct. i am using Signblazer but also downloaded Signcut x2 and both programs do this. messing with the offset didnt help either as shown in that second pic. the cutting strip is flat tool LOL

Have XY setting on the machine been changed or corrected?

set the overcut in the software to 0.125 this will insure that cuts are closed.

One step further... you may have to play with your offset settings, what works for one machine may throw off another machine. Get a scrap piece of vinyl, and do 20 or 30 test cuts, and write down each setting before moving on the to the next test cut...

While it's not perfect, the cut in the first picture is sometimes the norm for the pcut and refine.

Here are two links to posts about how to adjust somethings on your machine. The Pcut is basically a LAserpoint without the Laser and a few other minor changes.

Sometimes with these machines it takes a little tweaking, but if you put in the time they are great little cutters. Looking at you picture I think you have a combination of Offset and maybe a carriage issue. Ken Imes always used to ask everyone first to make sure the carriage rollers are on the track right. They can become jarred during shipping. On my laserpoint there are white rollers with one on both sides (in front and behind) the guide edge. Make sure one hasn't popped out of place.

Also you might check your blade holder, make sure it spins freeling, a drop of lube inside on the bearing is a big help, and make sure there isn't a bunch of play back and forth in it. This will cause all sorts of problems. There was a batch of bad holders that went through a while back and USCutter took care of them for us.

Good Luck

Kevin

pull the cover off the left end (opposite the control panel) of the cutter, and check the feed roller drive belt tension. my laserpoint had a loose belt and was impossible to calibrate.

well tried all the stuff mentioned and nothing seems to help. even the people at uscutter are unsure LOL

here are some more pics.

also to note, when doing the self test when cutting the huge circle the paper started to bunch up as seen in the pic.

a third pinch roller in teh middle would help control the buckling. also try easing up on the pressure a little.

What are the signs that the blade holder is bad?

I am been talking with p56 and so far that is our only idea ( the pen seems to draw fine). Anyone think that the issue with the cuts not completing and the corners still have rounded edges would be due to a blade holder gone bad?

Also whats a good way to determine if the cutting strip needs to be replaced ( or causing these issues? )

Thanks

I think checking the feed roller drive belt is one good thing to do.

Also it's possible to be a bad pinch roller.  You could try swapping them and move the left one to the right side and see if the test comes out differently.

Another thing is to do a manual media feed prior to cutting to be sure that it feeds straight before starting the cut job.

If you swap the pinch rollers and it changes the test results that would narrow it down.

Loose belts could cause this, a bad blade holder could too but not with the pen.

I would check both belts first.

PInch rollers for the pcut are only $15 I would definately add one or two.It will surely help with the bunching up and also the tracking. MY bother added 2 abd said it made a big difference.

Interested in how this finally gets resolved becuase I am having the same issue with a new LaserPoint 24.

Belts were way loose and was able to tighten those which solved problems when plotting with a pen. Adjusted X & Y cooridinates and am getting a perfect square, again while plotting with a pen.

When it comes time to cut... I'm getting exactly the results shown at the beginning of this thread.

Offests in increments of 0.05mm, speed changes, blade and blade depth changes - nothing seems to totally resolve the problem.

If the problem were pinch rollers, wouldn't that throw the pen/plotting off as well?

Anything else I've missed that I can look at?

Tried both SB and Signcut with same results. Running on a PC with XP and rapidly running out of Avery 1828 paint mask!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

An increasingly frustrated Daddy-o

Just to rule out carriage issues grab the blade holder tip while it's sitting still and on and see if you can move it front to back or side to side.

it will move side to side if you push too hard, the carriage will turn the motor but you'll feel that if you do.

Something to try to help narrow it down.

in the pic, the start/stop point appears to be in the "bottom right". would the cut direction be clockwise/?counter clockwise?

what are the x and y correction numbers on your plotter (not in the software, but on the plotters display)?
