you have been warned about refine 50"!

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, I have been having nothing but problems from my refine 50". The problem that i was running into was the tracking was drifting left then right 6 to 12 inches after about 5 to 6 foot of vinyl  when using the first and second feed roller together and only when using the first and second feed roller together. I have been very nice and I understand that these cutters have problems.I paid $50 to ship it back .after 3 weeks of not having my cutter it returns with the same problem......I was just informed by us cutter that these cutters will only track 5 to 6 feet and "that's what your money bought you...........i expect to have some problems and expect the machine to only last a year or so, but what a punch in the face that i was not informed that the machine will only cut 5 foot length at a time.i have other cutters but bought the 50" to do big signs that my 36" want do.and only was planing on using it every once and a while. But i guess i have a $600 paper weight. i just wanted to let every one else know that THESE MACHINES will ONLY CUT 5 TO 6 feet AND THAT WHAT YOUR MONEY BOUGHT YOU>...PER  USCUTTER ;D

i know what the problem is. its the feed roller assembly that is messed up. the number one and two feed rollers are not tracking togather.   i just ran 12 to 15 feet through the left side with 1/8 drift . when i run the two right rollers togather it will go 1 inch to the left and  right back to the right untill the viyl is sideways and completly out of the right pinch roller.they are just giving me the run around so i just want to let everyone know what in was going through....all they have to do is send me the feed roller assembly and id would replace it myself and i would bet my paycheck that would cure my poblem.

Is the cutter under warranty ? If not how much is the roller assembly ? I bought my Co-Pam 2 years ago this month . It came with 1 year warranty & I bought the 2nd year warranty for $99 . I have never needed any warranty , but the peace of mind it gave me was worth the $99  .

I've never had to do it but I seem to recall that the pinch roller pressure is adjustable. If they are not all adjusted the same, it would cause exactly the problem you are having. Have you tried adjusting the pressure? Or did you just assume it was a defective part?

BTW MY refine never drifts more than 1/4 inch no matter how long the cut.

yes i adjusted the pinch rollers and brandon at us cutter adjusted them when i sent it back to them to fix the problem .he said there was nothing wrong with my machine. i get it back  same problem. i called and left a message and he called me back and told me he did not have a tracking problem until about 6 foot. i said yes, that's why i sent it back it is way off only on the right side. he then told me "that's what my money bought me  , its a refine.".. i got mad and said ill through throw this p.o.s in the trash and buy from someone else. i was about to order the graphtec from them  as soon as i had this refine fixed but i have now changed my mind and will be buying from sign warehouse. they are about 300 bucks more but that's well worth the insurance for a warranty that will hold up......and yes my unit is under warranty

Sounds like a lemon - I had a mh-1351 and ran 10' stuff thru it will almost no drift.  Now have the copam and no problems there either

Yes I have to agree must just be a problem with your machine.. We also have the MH1351 and I have cut atleast 12' threw it without a problem.

I am sad to see US Cutter act that way when it does seem to be the machine thats at fault. And here we were going to be buying another copcam the end of this week.. I am already a little un easy about buying it from them since Ken is gone..

I would keep looking if Signwarehouse is your better option.  There is a long list of horror stories from people having problems with them and I'm one of them.

Go ahead and buy from signwarehouse up until 10 days ago, this was what their website said about support:

From their website: (for a cutter)

Premium Support Packages - Your BEST Value!

Premium Support Packages (PSPs) are the quickest, most economical way to get support assistance. And most sign makers, experienced or not, prefer choosing these options. In addition, PSPs can be purchased at any time while the equipment is under warranty. PSPs include live toll-free call-in help, priority email response, live chat regarding tech issues and remote desktop assistance. Remote desktop assistance is a service whereby, with your permission, our technical support technicians can take over your computer and implement necessary changes and fixes.

90 days: $248

6 months $349

1 yr $529.

The page is down now, no idea why.Maybe they realized how stupid it was.

regardless of where i buy my next cutter from untill this problem with  my refine is resolved i will not buy anything from this company again.when ken imes was in charge of tech he would have sent me a new cutter or fixed mine and not just say  thats what your money bought you..........thats prbally why he was let go.. he was costing the company too much money by fixing/replacing defective units

Maybe you should contact Levi at USC. He has quite a bit more experience with the refine than the others.

If you have already sent it back and it was not fixed to your liking, and you are still under warranty- I would ask for an exchange. Probably an issue with the feed roller assembly like you assume- could be some loose brackets, not sure unless I had a peak at it.

Hate to hear how they are losing customers these days....       ;D

thanks ken, we talked about this machine before you left and we assumed it was the feed roller assembly.thats what i told the guy in tech  he said there was nothing wrong and sent it back.same problem  and then i called him and he told me they want track more than 6 feet and "thats what my money bought me,its a refine"  so i have contacted them again with no response and im still waiting to clear this up,,,,,Wish you were still there ken Thx

I did see this machine in the shop when Brandon was working on it and honestly it did have a bad roller.  They did replace one of them.  My suggestion would be to try exchanging the middle roller with the right side roller.  If this makes it better or worse I'd see if you can check the tension on them.  If you can identify the bad roller let me know and I'll get the roller replaced for you.  If you exchange them and it makes absolutely no difference then it might be an issue with alignment of the feed roller itself (the one inside the base of the machine, not the pinch rollers).

I feel bad that you've had a bad experience.  I've watched many refines being sold and assisted with lots of customers using them.  They are not bad machines.  I spoke with one customer today who's had one for about 2 years, he started using it doing light work but quickly ended up using the machine heavily and it's been working fine and he's wanting a copam now.

I would not hesitate to recommend a refine to anyone.

Let me know if this is useful or not.

Howard.

the problem is not the pinch roller it is the feed roller that is messed up. it has to do whith the number 1 feed roller.if they would send me the whole feed roller assembly i would replace it my self.......the machine works great as long as you dont use the first and second feed roller togather

Thanks for the answer.  So my next question would be how long can you cut before the tracking becomes unacceptible?

right around two feet, about 6 feet it will be almost side ways and coming out from under the pinch roller.it has nothing to do with how im loading the vinyl    for one, i have done this for years and 2 i can get it to track perfect on the left side of the machine

the feed rollers are connected in the middle with set screws on either side of the center bearing. have you checked to see that they are tight?
