Problems - ProCut CR1200

Bought a slightly used machine but I have it running and am enjoying learning all this stuff.  I have a USB to USB connection on my laptop (no 9 pin serial connection on my laptop).  Software is Flexi Starter.  The problems I am having is that I can cut a few times, go back to cut something else and it won't cut.  Production manager says it is cutting but nothing is going on on the cutter.  I have to delete cutter setup, add setup, go out of Flexi, cut cutter off and back on and then I can get it to cut.  Also on a long cut, maybe a job of a yard or more it will stop and the cutter says "waiting" and I get a "write port error" showing in production manager.

Does all of this have to do with my connection cable?  I appreciate all the help you can give me.

Yes, USB and laptops seem to be the commonplace when this issue pops up. Maybe hook it up to a dedicated desktop with Serial ports, or try resetting the cutter itself after each successful cut.
