Fire, I use mine in the front, and have had no trouble at all, is there a true difference or is the carrage set up so you may be able to incorp a laser pointing devise into the setup ?

From my understand... the front slot is for the pen attachment.

I haven't been wrong once this year!!! I promise! ;)

In the rear slot, the blade should directly over the gray cutting stripe? Correct?

I read somewhere that the front slot is if you want to cut all of the way through. Like for card stock.

I was thinking that was on the Refine... but it may be like that for both models.

That's where you want it to be... that gray strip is a "cutting strip" for the blade to move back and forth on, so just incase your blade cuts all the way through the material, it won't damage the blade.

damn, I learn something every day, lol  now maybe I will see if I can retro a laser in the front slot...  lol, thanks guys !

I thought of that but the slots overlap. It could not be a round laser.

If you do not want to pay the shipping any pen would probably work alright. I read a post a little earlier where someone said they were using sharpies and that worked fine too. With a sharpie you aren't going to get much detail, that is just an example.
