  1. Hello all, for a while now I have worked with stickers, decals and signage. Because of my interest in graphic design, and the contacts I have who work in the field and would be happy to work with me, I'd like to start a design and print business. I intend to be able to make business cards, flyers, banners, menus - anything that could be considered advertising really. Would a Roland print and cut machine do the job, or would I need something more specialised for business cards and the like? What could be accomplished with a traditional print machine? My budget realistically is around £7000/$9000 here in the UK. Thanks!

    Monograms....

I was trying to come up with a neat gift for my niece who is 17 and currently looking into college. I don't know her likes/dislikes...and her Mom had no suggestions. Then I thought...a neat monogrammed t-shirt would be great. Easy-peezy right? JRL I have gained immense respect for those who create monograms. I had tough letters to deal with and I would have saved time using the standard circle/square/diamond designs.... but, no, I have to get fancy! The first photo with white background is of two samples I found online.... amazing, balanced monograms....that is what I was aiming for. The second, with the blue background is what I managed to come up with for a pocket monogram and a shirt front design. It's harder than it looks gang! AND, of course, this site was down (AGAIN) and I couldn't get any of your helpful input! Sue2
  3. Hello. My name is Desiree. I'm a 27 year old graphic designer in Texas. I have just purchased a 34" cutter from uscutter and a 15x15 heat press from amazon with guidance from someone who has been in the sign business for many years. I'm hoping to get most of my information from here and crossing my fingers that this is a valuable resource. If you have time to chat or are interested in my setup and ways you can help or we could collaborate let me know! Like I said, I'm a graphic designer so I'm already very familiar with Adobe Illustrator. Thanks!

    Newbie?

Hello, I've been snooping around the site for maybe 5 or 6 years and have never been really involved in the forums because I didn't really know if I belonged because I don't use vinyl. I use card stocks and paper but I also use all the same software and a lot of the same tools. I'm working on getting a website up and running but some of my pieces can be found at PapierdeLys.com and I've uploaded some of my experiments to my profile. I hope y'all don't mind me asking a million questions and I hope I can be a resource too. I think I've come up with some pretty unique innovations using paper. Ruda

  6. Here is a redo of our logo design. Still is not finalized, we have been workin on both for about an hour tell me what you guys think of these compared to the last.. Oh and the last had the GUNS AND FONT because the person who asked to do the logo wanted it to look like the post I made saying Id this font and get a prize. ( if you don't know what i'm talking about i'll re post the pic just ask me) Thats why it looked the way it looked. But I Agree with those who commented on my last post that it needed to be redone. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
  7. Hi everyone, It's been almost a month since I started making decals and one thing I have noticed is that no matter how high of a quality your file is, if you don't have your settings setup properly, your decal will not come out well. For every decal that will be made, I have to customize the settings: contrast, soften, optimize, etc. It's a real pain when you have to make the same decal over and over to figure out which settings are best. What I want to know is: are there guidelines or best practices to adhere to when it comes to making decals, specifically with Sure Cuts A Lot, of course? What is the best file type to use? What should I set the contrast, smoothness, optimization to? Do I always have to customize those options for every decal? How do you do it?
  8. Hello, im just starting to use CorelDraw for designing graphics, I have ve lxi expert software that I have been using. im designing race car graphics and I can make them using a template in draw, but I want to bring the design into my software to cut the different graphics, i'll attach a picture of a simple design of a flame decal, it is a larger decal I placed where I wanted, but there is some of the design that runs off the car and is hidden due to the template. I only want to cut what shows on the car, not all the extra of the design, or if I can possibly cut a few inches extra to help when installing them. Would it be best to powerclip the flame into the outline of the car, then just export it? not sure what works best, im sure it would be easier if I were printing the design but don't have the capabilities for that yet, just cut vinyl. Thank you for any advice and help.
  9. I was thinking about buying a Silhouette Cameo, but before I did I thought I'd ask for some feedback and make sure I'm getting the right thing. I just saw that the USCutter store doesn't seem to sell Silhouette stuff but hopefully it's okay to ask this question anyway. I want to design, print out, and cut out a bunch of stickers - like a thousand. I'm not sure how many would be repeats, but let's say that there are no or very few repeats. I'd design them myself, and they'd be small - 1-2 inches long. And I'd stick them on the wall. And they'd require fairly intricate cutting. (I've heard Silhoutte's cutters are good for small, intricate work.) I'm not sure what I'd design the stickers - I made some prototypes in Adobe Illustrator, using a free trial. That worked well, but I don't know if I can afford illustrator. Maybe I could design them using Silhouette software. And then maybe I'd use Silhouette software to make the registration marks. I was thinking about printing them out on Phototex adhesive sheets, on a standard desktop printer. Anyway I'm new at all this, and don't really know what I'm doing, so I'm just looking for some feedback and advice. Thanks a lot!
