  1. Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to the game and don't quite yet know all the "rules" and such. One of the projects I will be working on involves sublimating a plastic sheet in this case PET and as I don't have any experience nor a "scientific" background (let's say chemistry wasn't my forte growing up lol) I was wondering if the material had the necessary qualities that would let the ink adhere to it. Also would it matter how it comes out if the plastic was transparent, opague or if the thickness of the material would change anything? Thanks for any input!
  2. I am having trouble getting a "clean" trace of some window vinyl artwork provided to me in PDF format. I stated in vinylmaster cut, but upgraded to pro to try to solve the problem(s), but still having similar problems. The artwork contains text using three (non standard) fonts (of substantially different sizes), some underlining, and a couple social media icons. I am using PDF import/Import as Rendered (b/c editable appears blurry). The whole image is 2738x3650 pixels, 365dpi. There are three shades of gray just in the filled/solid areas. The customer wants all the vinyl the same color. There is also "fringing" on all the graphics- which appears as various shades of gray. I have figured out -with the help of online tutorials- how to change the various shades of gray to black. I then have tried a variety of add/subtract detail/despeckle applications- but inevitably end up with unacceptable cuttable graphics. (When in the vectorizer- the monochrome graphics appear jagged, but after Accepting- and looking closely at the curves generated- I am not happy.) I suppose all the defects could be cleaned up with path editing- but my god- I would have thought I could get a smooth trace! Should I even be tracing this text- or should I layout the lettering as text using font files? (The customer who "did" the layout using powerpoint- and seemed "offended" when I suggested my redoing the layout in my cutting software with the appropriate font files...) Thanks for any suggestions!
  3. Anyone have video or tutorials that are concise and helpful? I've done vinyl application before but not cutting. I'll be using my MacBook Pro to do interior lettering primarily. Thanks! DZ
  4. I am a total newbie to this, I have never cut vinyl before or worked with graphics programs, but I am extremely good with electronics and pick up on computer software and hardware very easily. That being stated I need some advice in which way i should go with my budget. - What i am looking to do is start a small business working in conjunction with a non profit Greyhound Rescue to help raise money and awareness to our efforts. The proceeds would go to helping pay vet bills and feed these animals as they live in their foster homes. What we would like to do is be able to print vinyl decals and also make t-shirts to sell on the internet through eBay, our website, and at our local adoption events that we host weekly... nothing big time but the equipment would see a decent amount of use. My question is, where do i start? If you personally had $1000 to spend to start an effort like this what would you buy? what would be the best "bang for the buck" that could start us out and get everything stated above done? I would love to hear your opinions please let me know what you think. Thank you all so much in advance.

    Another New SC Guy

Just ordered my SC today with basic starter stuff. I work for a small roofing contractor in Marin County, CA and we wanted to make yard signs for jobs we are on, put lettering on our cars and trucks, and redo saftey signage on our equipment. I redesigned the company logo to make this project easier on myself. I also got the Clamshell 15x15 heat press to make company shirts, since the workers tend to trash them after a month or so. Hope this is fun, otherwise its going to suck making all these signs. Any Interest in an unboxing/setup to first sucessful sign videos? I've never tried making signs before so it could be interesting.
