We're looking for a value vinyl cutter that can do contour cutting without being driven by VM, SCAL, or similar software. We plan to use our design software (Inkscape) to add registration marks to our images and to generate the HP-GL toolpath jobs. We would send the jobs to the cutter using Inkscape's Plot extension or a tool like InkCut. USCutter support tells me that the SC2 offers an ability to line up the laser from the control panel on the machine but that they only document contour cutting with VM. Can anyone confirm that the laser can be positioned for contour cutting alignment from the control panel without VM, SCAL, etc. on the SC2 (and/or other value models like the LP2)? Pointers to information about this feature would be appreciated. Alternatively, is the serial protocol for the positioning process documented for implementation outside of VM or SCAL?

Hello Members, Please forgive me for asking this question cause I'm sure it's been asked a million times, however, I've done research but can't locate any info. I have the LPII and I would like to do things such as engraving, scoring, stenciling, cutting thick materials such as thin wood, leather, etc. Basically, I'm wondering if it has the features of a Cricut Explore. I've had my LPII for a while but never learned to do much on it. Any help that can lead me to better understanding the capabilities of my LPII will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

While working with the LP2, I've had to get used to the specific spots where the pinch rollers align with the grit rollers. (On the MH and SC units, the grit rollers are all along the width of the machine, but with the LP2, there are set positions, and the pinch rollers must be placed at those points ONLY) On the front of the machine, there are stickers marking where those points are located. However, as I load vinyl from the rear, and lean over to place the vinyl, I decided that having marks along the top rail (visible from above) would assist me in sliding the pinch rollers so they come into contact with the grit rollers at those specific (1" wide) spots. Pictures attached to see my method. Hope this helps others.
