  1. I found a picture online where a black textured tint was applied to etched glass, which then looked like wrought iron. The textured tint was applied into the etching. Does anyone know of a textured tint to use on etched glass?
  2. I volunteer as a high school archery coach and it was time for senior night. We needed something to present to our graduating archers. I found these 7.75" glass trivets at the dollar store (for $1) and decided to give them a try as a plaque. I used 8 mil sandblast vinyl cut on my Graphtec and placed the stencil on the textured side of the glass. Blast media was 80 grit aluminum oxide from Tractor Supply shot at 60psi.
  3. Hey any advice on the what should my settings be if I want to cut vinyl to go on a champagne glass ( like wedding glasses with the name on it) something like the attached files. Also is there any special way to weed these without all the letters raising off?

    experimental efforts on glass

I am newbie experimenting with signage techniques on glass. I used 'rub n buff' sample pack on the first sign on which the text was sandblasted. I do not like the result of the metallic rub n buff. It is messy as well. The vinyl mask was mirror cut, weeded and then applied to the back of the 8X10 glass. I think it looks better without sandblasting with colored paper behind it. (As on the second sign pictured.) Experiments by definition are not always a success... What do you think?
  5. Hi everyone, I was looking for someone to either explain or demonstrate how to apply a large decal across the rear window of a truck with a sliding back glass. I've done some research and all I am finds is solid rear windows. I've practiced before and no matter how many times I measure before I apply, the decal still seems to be uneven across the three window panels. Also, how do you trim along the edges of the seals? Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  6. I am working on a small project for my wife, some vinyl typography applied on the second surface of glass. The silver leaf is used within the vinyl lettering. The problem is I am using two layers of vinyl to make up the letter forms and when I apply the mona lisa metal leaf adhesive it seeps inbetween the tiny gaps of the vinyl layers as its a liquid glue (like watered down elmers glue really) and leaves a glue stain which can be seen through the glass, it also doesnt seem to adhere the silver leaf very well but thats probably my lack of skill lol!. Im wondering what kind of glue should I be using - I was thinking of using some kind of spray on glue but it needs to dry optically clear so it doesnt make the silver leaf look drab- anyone have any suggestions for this. I could buy the oracal 383 gold leaf and easily evade all of these issues but I like the look of the silver leaf, plus i really only need a small amount. if only I could get to work for me :/ any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks

From the album: My Personal Projects

A sign I made for my wife's business. Vinyl on glass. I used a gray/white chevron fabric for the top and bottom borders. It's subtle, but I added a gray layer to the back side of the glass as well, with the teal vinyl overlayed down the center. I got this all finished and mostly in the frame when I tried to show it to my wife. The glass came loose and hit my workbench, cracking from the bottom right corner to the top center (if you blow the image up, you can see the crack)... so bummed. It was a good first try, I guess. =\
  8. Hey! I am installing vinyl decals on glass mugs at craft shows, and I am wondering if anyone has any good tips and tricks. It is super hot and humid and they are getting bubbles no matter how careful I am when transferring them. I am using paper transfer tape, but I am still having trouble with the thinner decals when trying to remove the tape. Since it is so humid the decals want to stay on the transfer tape and not the mug. I am wiping the mugs down before starting. I am being sure to tell everyone not to use their mugs for 24 hours to be sure the adhesive has time to set. Thanks!
  9. I'm having trouble lining up really small lettering. Anyone have suggestions?

    All This Talk About Etching....

All this talk about etching glass got me a little ancy. So I decided to go grab an air eraser and give it a shot. These are my first three efforts and I think they turned out all right given it was my first try. I plan to make some Christmas presents for some family and friends so I wanted to get some practice under my belt in preparation. The first try was a simple word down the side of a 22oz beer bottle. The second was a little bigger on a 1 gallon cider bottle I use for making starters when brewing beer. And the last was a transparent clip board. On the clip board I mirrored the image and blasted it in reverse on the back side so the writing surface would remain smooth.
