  1. MH721 28" Bought about 6 months ago Windows 8,7, and XP machines Latest drivers Sure Cuts a Lot Pro 3.053 USB (high quality cable) but I know, USB sucks. First month, machine was okay. It would close most cuts but sometimes would go on a fritz and start cutting all over my vinyl wasting 2-3 feet of vinyl. I stopped using the machine because of this but now recently I need to use it again. Settings are 50mm/s and 90 pressure. On standard Oracal Calandered white vinyl. Even when I use the machines "test" it will not close the cuts, at all. Leaving a good 1mm gap after each cut. Machine is grounded and I tried wiping down with one of those dryer cloths. Any ideas? I have been loosing my mind googling this.
  2. Hi guys, after using my Refine MH-721 for the past 2 years on my windows xp PC, I have had to re-format the OS and can't for the life of me remember how I set the drivers up. I shall try to include as much info as possible. WINDOWS XP SP3 - I would design the artwork in vector graphics software, then export as .cmx files. I would then load these .cmx files into Coreldraw 12, convert everything to hairline outlines and cut through 'Print'. This has served me extremely well and I have cut huge signs/graphics using this. I was using the USB connection, always. DRIVERS - My cutter was set up as a Printer using the Roland GX-500 drivers. I have all the drivers still saved but here is my problem: When I connect my cutter to the PC, it shows under Device Manager as 'USB2.0toSerial'. When installing the Roland drivers, it asks me for a COM port but I cannot then match this to what is in Device Manager as the Cutter isn't assigned a COM port. I'm sure it's a trivial/simple step I'm missing but it's been so long I can't remember. Do I need to install the USB drivers first, followed by the Roland GX-500 driver? I have everything I need already such as the drivers/software but can't remember how I actually set everything up. I would appreciate urgent help, step-by-step guide, as I have a sign to install tomorrow. Thanks.
  3. I've recently started playing around with contour cutting. Basically, I ordered some 8.5x11 vinyl for my desktop printer, to print and cut with. I am using Draw X5 for my design, and then Flexi 8.1 for my print and contour cutting. I print my design out with my printer, usually just one decal, instead of a whole page. I use FlexiSign Pro 8.1 to make my contour, and it also prints the Reg marks for me properly and all that jazz, I use my MH721 plotter with the Pen tool to help line me reg marks up, I can usually get them right on, yet my contour cut doesn't come out right. I don't really know where to go from here. It seems like its just stretching out my contour or maybe my print didn't scale correctly, not totally sure. Maybe someone can help me solve this problem. I've had success contour cutting with this same setup, but only on small items, or very very simple contours. (On the images attached, the rectangle is from me playing with the Compensation factor, which lines up good. Roughly 0.015625 of an inch off. That small margin should cause the contour to be that far off.) Any suggestions? It would be super nice to get this to work somehow, would really help out my business and my turn around times for the customers who order 8.5x11 sheets of decals.
  4. Hello, My cutter is not working. The display panel is blank and all the button I press makes the offline/pause green light up. It was working fine before. Help!

    Trouble with pressure/cutting/weeding

I'm having a few issues with my new Mh-721 1. Sometimes, the plotter won't finish cutting i.e, leaves out the circle in the Capitol "R" 2. Can't seem to get the right pressure on thicker tshirt vinyl, right now I have it on the highest pressure and its still not cutting all the way through in spots, (using a 60 blade) 3. I'm using Imprintables glitter vinyl and it seems IMPOSSIBLE to weed, it just comes apart in big uneven clumps!
  6. After the last update, my cutter started cutting rough. So I changed the blade... it got worse. I'm a new to the cutter, but have been using this one for about 3 months. No matter if I change speed or pressure it will cut straight through my vinyl or it will cut and peel the vinyl up. I'm so lost. Please help! Thanks
  7. Ok so I didn't use my cutter for a month or two and now I cant seem to get it up and running again. Every time I plug it in it says it failed to install the drivers, I didn't notice this at first so I went to cut my vector out in SB and when I hit "printer settings or Home position" I get the warning that there's been an un-recoverable error and it crashes. So I figured it must be a driver error.... I only can find the cutter listed under "USB printer support" If i remember correctly it used to directly list the printer and connected fine. I've also tried manually installing the drivers and the install usually fails. The USB printer support might have gotten installed when i plugged in a regular printer? I've tried multiple ports and have had 0 luck.

    SignCut Pro Text Outline Problems

Hey guys, i just downloaded SignCut so i have almost no idea what im doing wrong... So my problem is that when i cut using SignCut, Letters seem to get weird triangular shapes/cuts added to them... I have the USCutter MH721 cutter and have been using SignBlazer, and its been cutting fairly well with it except for small incomplete cuts which made weeding a little tricky and difficult... The current design im cutting works fine with SignBlazer, but not SCP. Connected thru USB Baud Rate is the same on both SCP and cutter (9600) Cutter is grounded to the stand Cutter and Stand is on carpet Calibration is on key Preview on cut is perfect Actual cut is messed up only on one letter. Ive tried the design in both .esp ver.8 and .ai ver. 8, same results. If you guys could help me with either the incomplete cuts on SB or the weird triangal cuts on SCP, either would be great! Heres the design that im trying to cut. (The space between "I" and "Fixies" is supposed to be there.) FixiesloveAI.ai
  9. Hi guys I have had my old MH721 for a while, and it was working nicely under Win XP Pro for me. My computer died and was replaced by a windows 7 system. The only connection I can use is the 9 pin serial cable as the new computer does not have the 20 something pin connection. I cant get it to run or even recognise the cutter at all. Ive tried downloading all of the newer drivers for it to no avail. Seems more likely its the computer not talking to the cutter than anything else. Any info or thoughts most appreciated
  10. I need help, and I have tried everything. I have a US Cutter MH 721 and have no problems until last week. I have owned the cutter for almost 2 years, and my mother-n-law own it before me (with no problems). Well last week I was sent a file from SignBlazer to the cutter, and the cutter stopped cutting. I was connected to the USB port on the cutter to the USB port on my laptop. The program still works, and I can hit the test button on the cutter and it works. I tried another USB cord except this time in the program it was no longer finding the cutter in "setup". My husband and I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, nothing! We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SignBlazer software, nothing! We opened up the case, and my husband noticed the USB port was loose (he works in the IT field). So he secured it down, and still nothing the program no longer found the cutter. After being frustrated, we ordered a DB9-USB adapter cord. Last night the cord showed up!! We plugged in the cord, installed the drivers for it, and uninstalled/reinstalled signblazer. Nothing!! The program still was not finding the cutter. Well after being frustrated once again, and my husband working on it for about 2 hours last night - we called it a night. This morning while waiting on US Cutter Support to open, I thought I would give it one last shot. I uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and the software. Followed on the directions on the setup (start.uscutter.com) for the drivers. This time to my surprise the program now finds the cutter. However, now I am getting the following error message, "Can not open the output device. Error initializing cutter." So since support was now open, I called!! The man on the phone was not helpful at all. I explained everything that we have tried, and how this all began. His response was get new software, and then call us back. Yet, I know it is not the software because I can now find the cutter in it. My problem is that the cutter will not cut still. This is why, I am here! What else can I do or try to get this to work??? Thanks in advance!

ok so I am just another newbie

OK so I am just another newbie in the game. I recently purchased a used but very well taken care of Refine MH721. I bought it from a friend who upgraded to a Roland plotter/printer. I know the 721 made him money and would like to do the same. I have some graphic experience but am totally new to this. First it didn't have any software so I went and downloaded SB and Inkscape. Well as of right now I am not impressed with inscape and so I re-installed my adobe software on here.Much easier for me to edit and make graphics INMHO on adobe.(its what I know) So I am trying to phase out inkscape. Now My next point of issue is Sign Blazer. It seems to me to be a PITA program. perhaps I am missing the simplicity or something but like I said I am new at this. IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE to Sign Blazer? Will another program that is perhaps more user friendly work with this plotter and if so can some one point me in the right direction on how to acquire and set it up to run with this machine? For now I will try and read all the other threads but some direction would be much appreciated. Also i have many jpeg and gif files that I have created and would like to cut but the whole process of getting them to the correct file to cut is messing with me. It seems I have no problems with some things I have and others don't seem to work even if I follow same procedure. Sigh. Thanks ahead of time Art a.k.a. TruckCentral
