From the album: Home Workshop Setup
A second rack I made for 10 yard rolls. The same setup as my 50 yard rack, but the bolts are spaced every 4 inches instead of 6 inches. Clips on the left bolts hold the reorder name/numbers for the different vinyl colors. Holds sixteen 10 yard rolls. -
I didn't see anything useful during a quick forum search, but I was wondering if anyone has bought/made anything that helps manage/organize their remnants by size and color. I have a lot of useable vinyl that ends up sitting in a semi-neat pile next to my cutter, and I'm starting to worry about pieces getting bent, wrinkled or otherwise becoming unusable. Space is at a bit of a premium. Most of my remnants are generally under 13" wide by 36" long. I'm tempted to try and find something like what they use to store posterboard at stores, but am also a fairly capable craftsman, especially if it will save me some $$. Any ideas? I have 25 colors that I stock, and would love to keep to the 13x36 footprint, as space is definitely becoming a premium at my home workshop. Thanks!

I definitely had to make time. I've got around 450 pieces I need to get out in just over a week. =) I just pile up scraps now and plan on organizing them on the shelf at the end of the week. It's already sped up using the remnants for orders. No more digging and having to clean up.

Front shot of the stand. about 2.5" between shelves... if I have more remnants than this, it's probably time to start tossing some out. -

End-of-roll pieces and larger square/rectangle pieces stored under the cutter. -
All good ideas! =) I'll have to mess around with what I've got and see what will work best. Thanks for the replies and keep em coming!

umm hrmm what happened

That's no bueno. I imagine that's a software issue more than a cutter issue. Are you using SCAL? -
I've been listening to Grooveshark while I cut almost every day, and just found out you can broadcast. Not sure if anyone has my same taste in music, but feel free to drop in and listen with me. =) If anyone else runs a Grooveshark broadcast, I'd love to drop in some time, as well. =) http://grooveshark.com/#!/phaedruszen/broadcast My music is all over the place, maybe a little light on classic rock (sorry, 70's).

Like pippin said, I select each object I'm cutting, go to the "Object" menu, select weeding, and then just hit enter. That will cut a box around your objects making weeding and cutting remnants a lot easier. There are

Plastic tape over the cutting strip?
PhaedrusZen replied to PhaedrusZen's topic in TITAN 2 Series Vinyl Cutter Discussions
Pippin, I've been cutting Oracal 631 exclusively. As far as I know I haven't run off the vinyl and onto the cutting strip at all, which makes me curious as to why the tape would begin to split on the cutting strip. I'm hoping it's simply that the tape got worn out with all the vinyl traveling across it. (I've run something like 300+ yards over it so far.) I've got the blade set to just barely leave a mark on the backing material, and it weeds well. I've cut down the tape where it curled up and was dragging on the back of the vinyl, so no more horrible noises. I figure I'll leave the rest and see what happens. -

Plastic tape over the cutting strip?
PhaedrusZen replied to PhaedrusZen's topic in TITAN 2 Series Vinyl Cutter Discussions
Thanks for the heads up. I've already run into issues with lack of Titan 2 specific instructions. On the instructions that the cutter comes with (PDF/videos) it instructs that the pinch rollers should be situated anywhere along the cutting strip but where the indication stickers are placed. On the Titan 2, this is exactly opposite of what you should be doing. I thought I had a broken cutter for a while. (Granted this is my first cutter, and I'm learning about the most basic elements the hardest way possible... who would know what a grit roller is without at least a little instruction/experience... ). Luckily between all the help available on the forum and the excellent customer service at USC, I've survived so far. You'd be suprised at all the questions I haven't asked after finding excellent answers on this forum. =) -
I've been using the ZipCutter from USCutter's website. So far so good. An added bonus is it's got enough metal content to stick well to magnets, so I placed a magnet on the bottom right side of my cutter stand, and the tool sits right there until I need it, and goes right back as soon as I'm done... no magically disappearing tools like above. =) http://www.uscutter.com/ZipCutter-Banner-and-Graphics-Trimming-Tool

From the album: My Personal Projects
A sign I made for my wife's business. Vinyl on glass. I used a gray/white chevron fabric for the top and bottom borders. It's subtle, but I added a gray layer to the back side of the glass as well, with the teal vinyl overlayed down the center. I got this all finished and mostly in the frame when I tried to show it to my wife. The glass came loose and hit my workbench, cracking from the bottom right corner to the top center (if you blow the image up, you can see the crack)... so bummed. It was a good first try, I guess. =\ -

I'm relatively new to this whole experience, so I'm still learning. Is it possible to just get bad vinyl that doesn't stick to the backing paper like it should? If so, how often does that happen. It's still weird that it would cut some designs fine, but not others, all on the same roll of white. Go-C, it's showing welded on my file. Maybe it just dropped the setting when I exported it as an svg to upload? I do need to keep an eye out for that though. As for font choices, I don't design them, I just cut and ship them. =) ** Just to cover bases, I've been prefeeding all my cuts too, so it's not screwing up the cut from having to pull on a 50 yard roll...
