    160 free vector

Are we actually allowed to cut and sell these "Free Samples"? This statement is on the page so I would assume... No You can use these images, but it is not allowed to distribute, publish or sell them in any way unless you purchase a license.
  4. Wouldn't this be $12 for each decal based on the L+W/2? so $24 total?

Large Tree & City Skyline Wall Decals

I know this is an old post, but I am curious on how you did the 7 pieces. Do you have overlap or is it a straight cut that has to be butted together. also how much instruction did you give for install. I am very interested in doing huge decals like this. This looks awesome!
  11. I wish I had known to use the terminology mock-up in searches for free files before. I have bought some stock photos to use. I guess if I had thought harder I could have come up with that! I always learn something new on here! Thanks!! MB - Do you heat press Koozies?
  12. By definition Vector images do not contain pixels and thus can be resized with no loss of quality.
  13. Can anyone suggest a good Adobe Illustrator Tutorial (or book). I have a design background in AutoCAD and Illustrator thus far just frustrates the heck out of me when I try to digitize things. I don't fully understand the paths and other concepts. I learn super well from manuals and technical documents, but there are so many I thought if someone could point me to the ones they thought were most helpful that would get me off on the right foot. I don't have alot of free time at home, so I have to fit it in when I can. Currently I find myself just using AutoCAD to digitize since I know what I am doing in there, but I may not always have access to AutoCAD so I want get some Illustrator skills under my belt. Thank you! Marie

Im new and dont Know what im doing!

I use the Cameo for small stuff and then illustrator with the CutStudio Plug-in for the bigger stuff on the roland. I have to admit I have not used it much yet. Is there a cut by color option with that cutstudio plug-in? I do it just by grouping each color and deleting out what I don't need to cut for whatever color I am working on.

Wildgoose - So you just layer the + Mark right on top of each other? I have used squares where one fits in the other - nothing right on top of each other. I like the idea of the plus sign though because it seems like you get easy to see vertical and horizontal alignment.
  16. Hey! I am installing vinyl decals on glass mugs at craft shows, and I am wondering if anyone has any good tips and tricks. It is super hot and humid and they are getting bubbles no matter how careful I am when transferring them. I am using paper transfer tape, but I am still having trouble with the thinner decals when trying to remove the tape. Since it is so humid the decals want to stay on the transfer tape and not the mug. I am wiping the mugs down before starting. I am being sure to tell everyone not to use their mugs for 24 hours to be sure the adhesive has time to set. Thanks!

    Vinyl on Glass in Humidity

Yep I understood not to spray with alcohol on app tape :-) . That 2nd part of my post was in reference to the application fluid or water suggestion. I guess I always assumed app fluid went on under the decal.... ? so that is why I was asking for clarification... I assume soaking the paper in it releases the papers hold on the decal?? I believe I am using 70% as well (I'll double check tonight though) on the glass before application. I seriously was not waiting long though because I had customers waiting. I just didn't think wiping them down and having them ready would make sense.... if they sat out for too long before I applied to them. So I was wiping them with alcohol. getting my decal out of my file system and then wiping them off again with the paper towel and applying. It was seriously horrible here on Friday and Saturday afternoon when I was doing this though (hottest and most humid I have seen it this summer).

    Vinyl on Glass in Humidity

One the 2nd day I did start wiping with alcohol before applying. It wasn't drying super fast so I was wiping with alcohol them wiping off with dry paper towel - is that defeating the purpose?? So you are saying spray the back of the tape after it is on there.... I assume this soaks in and releases the glue?

    Vinyl color swatch

http://www.expressionsvinyl.com/sample-kits.html I have these - works great. Basically it looks like they do a full cut through the vinyl AND backing paper with a hole, use a simple ring you can get at an office supply store. I believe they even have stickers on them with the color names on the back. I will have to look at home later. I liked doing this because I could keep my in-stock colors on one ring and pull all the other colors offered off and have them as "Special Order Colors". At the time that I bought this ring I didn't have much of a vinyl selection of my own, and I liked this even just for my own reference when deciding what colors to order.
  21. Not sure if anyone here would know about this, but I did see some people saying they have GIS experience. I am working on stormwater inventory project. I am familar with surveying, but the equipment we purchased and software is new to me. For the most part I am picking it all up but as with the first time doing anything, there are snags. We are using a Trimble handheld loaded with Terrasync, Pathfinder Office for post processing, and then back to ArcGIS for the client. Our client has a very specific file Geodatabase Schema setup for us to use. I imported that to Pathfinder Office to create my data dictionary. Some of the Attribute Fields changed type from like double (in ArcGIS) to menu fields (since they had domains associated with them). Now when I go to export back to ArcGIS I can't load my shapefiles to my file geodatabase because the attribute fields don't match up. "The value type is incompatible with the field type" Since there are no exact matches for field types between the Trimble software and the ArcGIS, I am not sure what my options are. I know I can create a new attribute field of the correct type and migrate the entries over, but I need a better long term solution than that. I have a web session setup with the company that I purchased the equipement and software though on Monday afternoon so that should help me figure it out, I just thought I would take a shot and see if anyone here any experience with this sort of workflow. Thanks, Marie

Very off Topic - I need some Trimble/GIS Help

ESRI Support staff was much more helpful. I don't have an answer yet. It might just have to involve a work around, but atleast they were willing to help me with a work around instead of pointing fingers. Marie

Very off Topic - I need some Trimble/GIS Help

Ah so you run equipment via GPS for grading and such? I have not seen this in person, but I think it sounds awesome! I had an online session with Duncan Parnell yesterday which is who sold me the Trimble unit and software. She eventually said it was an ESRI (ArcGIS issue). Basically we have narrowed it down to blank entries get exported as spaces instead of null entries which ArcGIS is not accepting. To me this seems like an issue on the export side of things, but she is claiming it is on the ArcGIS import side. I don't know.... I am planning a call with ESRI today. If I can just get these issues ironed out I can get rolling. I feel like instead of support I am getting finger pointing between software companies. Marie

Very off Topic - I need some Trimble/GIS Help

Well I had an option between the Trimble software and the ESRI software for the handheld unit. Either TerraSync or ArcPad. My company left it up to me to pick the software and equipment pretty much. I chose TerraSync - the Trimble software because it is a more user friendly and straight forward software for my field guys who have zero GIS experience. I was told that there would be no issue with it migrating back to the ArcGIS File Geodatabase. I am seriously starting to worry that what I was told is not actually true, I will hold off judgement until I know for sure.
  25. I'm about to share some personal information - not my comfort zone to do that on something like this, but I would love to get advice from people in this industry. I have a day job. A very good paying day job - That I am pretty much miserable at. I have switched companies several times (private to government and back) and I think it is just not the profession for me. While I do well at my job, I just am not enjoying it or the long hours plus the stress. In comes my vinyl hobby. I have had this hobby for a while, and I have considered starting it as a side business. Selling wall decals and such on Etsy. I am finding it hard to get time to even get that going since buying my new 24" cutter since I work such long hours. I have an opportunity to do some signs and such locally coming up, and it has gotten me thinking that I could add local signs to my business and maybe go all out and do it full time. Go big or go home right?? I had originally thought I would dip my toe in and try it out, but I just don't think I have the time to spare right now with my job to do so and really give it a fair shot. I have no Graphic Design background, but I do have extensive design background in AutoCad and GIS. So I have some basic knowledge of how to technically do some things (vector design/drawing etc) but the graphic design part of it is something I know I will need to work on. I am prepared to put time and effort into learning some basics on my own and if it becomes necessary take a class at a local college. Also I am looking for a business that might allow me to work from home. I want to start a family, but I also want to have 2 incomes without having my kids in daycare all the time. I grew up with self employed parents and I know it takes alot of work and long hours, but I also was never in daycare so I see the pros and cons. This kind of thing is a choice everyone has to make on their own, but I just can't see myself working the schedule I do now and having children. So my new found internet friends, I guess what I am trying to get around to asking is can you share your general opinions and experiences concerning this sort of thing? I realize business' take a while to get going, but if I were to commit full time to something like this and give it my all, I am wondering if this is realistically something I can make a decent income at. Also, is this type of sign business stable? Those are the sorts of things I would love for you to share with me. I live in a rural area, and I think I can market to the locals (Realtors, business' and clubs and such). I can offer them a local option and save them a long drive or an internet order. Thank you! Marie
