  1. Here are some samples I have done. I specialize in making number signs for demolition derby cars - and it has kept me busy! All of my signs are professionally powder coated. I then get the wrap printed on a Roland Versa Camm, and layer any holographic on my Roland GX-24 I have at home. I know everyone on here has a business, but if any of your local guys need a sign for their county fair demolition derby, feel free to pass along my info as this is all I dedicate my time to. Thanks for looking! Lee Engstrom Graphics Lakeville, Minnesota www.engstromgraphics.net

    Roland VersaCamm SP-300V

Hey guys - just got this machine. Everything seems to be going fine - I did a test print on regular 641 oracal white vinyl just to test the ink - everything looks good except for the swipe marks of random colors as indicated in the picture. Sorry if this is a simple fix, this is my first printer, always just used a cutter. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    Roland VersaCamm SP-300V

Thanks - I did a sample print on a sample of FDC and everything looks good so far. Thanks for the help, and your time, I appreciate it!

    Roland VersaCamm SP-300V

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! So sorry, dumb question........my cutter (GX-24) I would always cut a piece to size. Do you recommend I do the same with the wrap material (so do NOT place the whole roll on the roller and let the machine pull the material up to print?)? Thanks, I appreciate it!

    Roland VersaCamm SP-300V

Thanks - yea I know I wasn't going to use the regular vinyl - just didn't want to test on the little bit of Orajet I actually have for the first time printing. I will put in the Orajet wrap vinyl and do a test run - thanks! Any other suggestions?

    Roland VersaCamm SP-300V

So what does that entail and what is a fix? Thanks!
  7. Hello, I have a Roland GX-24, has worked flawlessly for a while now. Just tonight, my Up cursor arrow does not roll the material. The down rolls the material, and left and right arrows move the carriage, but rollers do not move when I hold the UP. If I go into Menu and settings, let's say force for instance, the UP arrow DOES move the force up, or speed, etc. However, the UP does not move the material and or rollers. What's going on? Any help would be appreciated, I always double check the piece I am working with to make sure it is aligned with the rollers, this makes it almost impossible to do! I have many orders to complete this week - thanks in advance!!!! Lee
  8. So ironically - I have the same exact issue - 10 months from the date it originally happened. I unplugged everything on the motherboard - turn it back on, do a Self-Test, cuts CAMM-1 fine, everything else is operating - EXCEPT the UP arrow only. Does anyone have any information? Anything is appreciated - thank you! Lee

    Text Effect - how to?

As far as beveled fonts - I guess I could paint the different sections and increase the dpi and save as a png and import into my design - seems like a lot of work when it seems like a simple effect that could be implemented within any font.

    Text Effect - how to?

Ignore the actual police officer - how do you accomplish the 2 tone effect which is depcited in the word Police? Any help is appreciated! Photoshop or Inkscape, etc. Thanks!

    Text Effect - how to?

Thanks for the video. Yea I am not looking for layering in cut vinyl - this would all be printed for wraps. Just wasn't sure if there is a specific name for this effect and if so how to accomplish it in photoshop or Inkscape.

    Text Effect - how to?

I normally use Photoshop or Inkscape - but hard to research when I am not even sure what this effect is called? Almost like a 2 tone emboss reflection - no idea - any help? Thanks in advance.

    Text Effect - how to?

Yes I have printing capability with a VersaCamm - just wondering how to make this effect in the design process. Thanks!

Engstrom Graphics - Demolition Derby Signs

Thanks - that show that the picture is from is only once a year. I am up in Minnesota; around here we have a demo within 100 miles of the twin cities probably every weekend during the summer. Local purses are only about $1,000 or so. It helps to advertise your sponsors in a more professional looking way instead of rattle can - kind of a selling point for me. I don't do too much lettering for the actual car, since it will get wrecked. But the sign they can use over and over again.

Engstrom Graphics - Demolition Derby Signs

  17. Fixed it - not sure how, must have just been a loose connection. I unplugged the wires via the clip on the motherboard, and the ribbon from the control box to the motherboard - hooked it back up and turned it on, and good to go! I would like to think that's all it was - but at the same time, has me wondering a little bit. Thanks for your time Rodger, I appreciate it. Lee
  18. Would these be coming from the back of the control panel directly to the motor? Or would they go control panel via motherboard, to motor? Thanks. If I need to replace one of these components (I would assume control panel or motherboard, as motor is fine) where can I order them and how much am I looking at? Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it. Anyone else? Thanks! Lee
  19. Thank you. I took off the back cover, and it exposed wires that go to the carriage and everything looked fine. I them removed the 3 deep well screws on the side, to take the side cover off. All wires look good (the bulky white ones together) that come from the control panel to the motherboard look fine. Thanks again - frustrating, only had it about a year and use it on and off every week.
  20. Anyone else have any ideas? I already contacted Roland support, but that was last night so I won't get an answer until this week I am assuming. Do I just have to make sure the piece (I generally use pieces about 2 feet at a time) is lined up correctly and work around it? Thanks again, I appreciate it. Lee
  21. I kind of feel like my last option is to do away with SignCut for now - and order FlexiStarter for Mac and try that software.........just confused and frustrating since the Roland and my Mac communicate via SignCut, but it just cuts incorrectly and incomplete - which makes me think software/communication. Keyspan drivers are up to date, which enabled me to communicate originally. So close - I was pumped when I got communication established, just doesn't cut correctly. So I can try to get the correct trial version of SignBlazer (does signblazer accept .eps files to cut?) with my PC, or order FlexiStarter and continue to try to make it work with my Mac (sigh) :- Not really sure what else to do, especially when my orders keep piling up, and people are sending me checks for projects I can not even start right now......
  22. Not yet - I downloaded the trial version of SignBlazer - and Roland is not one of the options for a cutter :-
  23. Already did that....goes from the cutter down to one of the big screws on the stand. :-
  24. Here is the response I got from Roland support: "Mr. Engstrom, We regret to inform you that we do not have Mac drivers for the PC-60 only for the PC side. Here is the link in case you would like to download drivers of the PC: http://dg4.roland.co.jp/en/color.html#pc60" So I already downloaded the driver for my XP machine - so it looks like I can not use this cutter with my Mac. Which sucks. Guess I need to design and do everything else on my Mac, then cut my file on my PC. Ok, that is fine - as long as it works. Here is the response I got my SignCut support: "It is rare that a Roland has these issues, the type of problem you describe sounds like a memory overrun or static electricity buildup. Please first try powering your plotter of and then on before cutting. You also could try grounding the cutter to the stand and using some antistatic spray around the machine." So....my cutter is on the stand, but the stand is NOT on wheels, and is on carpet........it is grounded (top unit to the stand). Could this be the issue?
  25. I know there is no proof - just the guy's word, which today can always be suspect unfortunately :- I installed the XP driver from Roland.....restarted my PC, it is listed in the printers section - but when I cut same thing. I have not tried it with SignBlazer. I will download the free trial and go from there. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!
