  1. Is there a way other than cutting heat-set deco-vinyl to get a foil on t-shirts. I thought I saw somewhere that someone imprinted the laser transfer sheet through first in solid black, pressed it onto the shirt then put the foil sheet over the black and pressed the foil onto the black. I searched the forum and couldn't find it. Am I dreaming??? TIA Sue

    Foil on t-shirts

I KNEW I saw this foil trick someplace! We use a similar method with a laser printer on certificates You can cover the toner with foil and a second pass through the heat of the laser printer will stick the foil to the toner. Here it is on the t-shirt forum talking about the new trim-free JOTO Laser paper. It's about halfway down the first page...post date of July 29th http://www.t-shirtforums.com/laser-heat-transfer-paper/t122816.html OMG...this could be great!!! Fast Foil! Sue
  3. Thanks to CraigsList I just became the proud owner of two vintage Hotronics heat presses. One 16x20 Swing Away and one Cap press. They are both from 1994 but in good shape. Stahl's Tech Service was great about sending out pdf Operator's Manuals for both. Questions, I got questions~~~~~~ Neither press has covers on the base... is there any reason I can't use a regular teflon coated ironing board cover that's cut down to size??? They came with a teflon sheet for the top and a black rubbery looking sheet (silicon?). The teflon sheet has been folded and shows some creasing....will the crease lines be impressed into heat set vinyl? I'm sure I will have more questions! TIA Sue2
  4. My customer needs a bi-lingual sign: English & Spanish "All Customers report to office to get a number. No one will be served without a number." Is there an online source to get the proper Spanish translation? Thanks, Sue

Is is worth getting a shop??

Getting a shop is a big investment in both time and money. As mentioned above, you have to make $X,000 per week just to open the door each day. The exact amount will depend on your location, etc. Along with water, electric, phone, rent, insurance you will need someone to actually be there 40 hours per week to answer the phone and take care of walk-in customers. Will that mean an additional employee and all the attending headaches that invovles??? Believe me, if you can make a nice comfortable living from your home without employees....stay there!!! Sue2

Thanks! I was hoping someone could recommend a reliable translation site from experience. This is what I came up with: "Todos los clientes reportan a la oficina para obtener un n
  8. I've seen them called ornaments, scrolls or dingbats. Look in the Dover Clipart collection...they might have it. Sometimes you can find corners as a "font" in the free font sites. Sue2

    Things left out of manuals

Do not walk away....continue to stare trance-like at the moving blade or print heads and everything will come out fine. Turn away to answer the phone or get that cup of coffee and you're sure to jinx the whole job. Sue2

    Would you be mad?

Would I be mad.....well no, but I would cringe when I saw my painted over signs. BUT, at least they are trying to recycle. An up-sell opportunity for sure. Charity....we have a storefront printshop and also offer quick banners & signs. We get several requests per week for freebie tickets, flyers, posters, copies, banners, signs........ Sometimes it is overwhelming...as others have said, we operate for profit companies and cannot donate to everyone that calls or comes in the door. I have no problem donating to business/organizations that purchase from me... I try to keep it to a percentage of their yearly spending. It's the organizations that cold call and want give-aways that bother me. I tell them we SAVE our donations for those that do business with us during the year and perhaps their regular printer would like the opportunity. I then suggest we would be happy to provide their printing during the year and ask who in their organization handles the purchasing. I will make an exception for a cause I believe in....but despite this, I don't see that we gain much from freebies. Better to offer to partner for publicity or add a coupon to the back of "Free" tickets. I have also provided free labor if they pay for the materials..... but that seems to cheapen your product.

    Gun Barrel

Well, I was looking for something older... I want to make a cut vinyl sign that shows the gun barrel pointing straight out with the phrase: "Go ahead, make my day." This is a gift for a gun collector friend and I know nothing about guns. If I could find a front on view of this type revolver it would be perfect. If worse comes to worse, I'll just have to wing it and hope it looks enough like the real thing. Thanks for any help!

    Look what UPS dropped off

I got one! Off-Max has printer specials right now...$50 OFF PLUS $70 Rewards points. I also turned in 3 empty cartridges for another $9 in Rewards and a card I got in the mail for $10 off instore purchase. Sooooo, the $200 Workforce 1100 printer ended up $140 and I will get $79 in Rewards coming next month. You can order online and pay shipping or walk into the nearest store with the computer print-out and they will honor it....but check your online rewards points to be sure they are credited. I love the idea that it will print from 3.5" x 5" to 13" x 44". Envelopes to mini posters...and I may just dabble in the t-shirt world. Now, let's go look at them heat presses! LOL it never ends, I love my toys!!! Sue

    Look what UPS dropped off

I want one! Does the WorkForce 1100 normally come with pigment inks or dye inks? The 1400 is on sale at S*ples this coming week for $150... with a traade-in printer. Is the 1400 the same machine just updated??? TIA Sue2
  19. :- The LaserPoint with the contour cut feature intriques me. I have an HP5500 wide format printer that will print full color in UV inks on 4 mil adhesive vinyl. For long term outdoors applications (magneitc coroplast signs mostly), we cover with a 3.5-4 mil clear laminate. For decals, bumper stickers ,etc., will the LaserPoint contour cut through both layers or will they have to be cut separately? TIA Sue
  20. Newbie questions here. What's the difference between the servo, stepper, directional etc. motors??? Is one better than the others? AND while we're at it...pinch rollers & grit rollers...does one type feed better??? TIA Sue2
