Who use contour cut with a Graphtec CE5000-60?
edge replied to CRD's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I use the CutMaster II on a smaller Graphtec. Some of my media has a hand cut edge which can effect the skew when printing. In other words, the registration marks aren't always parallel to the edge, this can occasionally cause frustration when attempting to read the marks. Did I understand you to say the graphic will be printed offsite and then cut by you? If that's the case, the printer will need the registration marks in the project when you send it to them and if the project becomes resized at any point during that process; there could be issues with your reading the marks. -

Is the press shown designed to self index? Guess I'm asking if it has a detent that it centers on or if it drifts at each position?

For the past 2+ years I have designed in Corel X3 and launched to cut with various versions of SignCut PE (currently 2.21 WIN). The only requirement placed upon the cutting software in my case has been to add weeding lines and interpolate the data to a Copam 2500. I've got a couple of months license rights remaining on the SignCut PE 2.21 and frankly don't care to spend even more $ to upgrade to SignCut PRO for features and perceived problems I don't need. So I'm exploring other options. I'm looking for a replacement cutting software to direct a Copam 2500 that will launch or interact well from Corel X3 and allow adding weeding lines. That's it, that's all I need. As an added plus this software would ideally be $125 or less and not expect me to pay another premium 12 months in the future. Any suggestions from actual users? SignGo lite or similar perhaps?

Have you checked your cable connections? Have you gone into Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager> Ports; to confirm the cutter is being recognized?

I would imagine if one were required, you would consult the local municipality for criteria requirements.

How to contourcut with Corel X4-Illu CS3 and Signcut pro with three reg marks
edge replied to CRD's topic in Instructional Contributions
With Corel X3 (using the 11 template in this tutorial) and SignCut pro dongle thru USB to Copam. All goes well untill cutter lays out the first crosshair, then SignCut Freezes. I use the USB connection all the time with SignCut Pro, no issues so I'm inclined to believe USB is not the problem. Any suggestions? -
You didn't specify flattering or unflattering..so I used my own discretion. pelosi.eps pelosi.eps

Hope you keep those colors in stock as I imagine a car like that would require weekly body work.

With the spacing of the intermediate rollers on the Copam, all vinyl widths above a couple of inches thru 24" can be accommodated.

I'm willing to bet you get as many different opinions on this question as answers. For me Corel was easier to grasp. I seem to encounter a mental block when it comes to learning Adobe products.

Possible to Pre-Assemble a Large Decal for Customer?
edge replied to lionsnwings's topic in General discussion
Yea..Cut it on a 48" machine Seriously... With that large of a graphic, I wonder if you might encounter a slight variation between the multiple pieces to begin with. -
This picture may not be worth quite a thousand words due to it's quality...However it'll suffice. As you can see in addition to the roller at 24" (not shown) there are additional rollers spaced across the surface to allow cutting of intermediate widths. Haven't cut anything other than vinyl on this one in three years as I use a Graphtec for that. I believe others here have done it though. The Copam was a good value for the $.

You could do as you suggest and then trim, leaving only the outline.

If your basement is like most it may just be oxidation on the cartridge contacts.

Appreciate this post, it's helped to further my insight.

My experience with Graphtec's CutMaster...registration marks no less than 1/2" to edge, with project not encroaching on their connected plain.

sports logos ?

There is where I reside...While they don't make a big deal about it, they do make it known that it exists. -
I'm definitely out of my element, so bear with me here. As the result of an office closure; I was given two Laser printers, along with sheets of 3m ControlTac (series unknown). At this time I was told they thought someone in the backroom had been using this ControlTac in a laser printer for magnetic sign application. I have been all over the internet looking for insight and apparently have not looked in the right places. I don't think either of these printers (one monochrome, one color) uses a solvent based ink, so from what I have read about any ControlTac am begining to think it ain't gonna work. Any insight?
-
Thank you...my source claimed they were using this method for a simple logo on Company vehicles, before closing the doors and selling off. The amount of ControlTac given was small, have been reluctant to test....but you've made it easier to take the plunge when I find the right fit.

Have had some success using a heat gun.

Obviously the Copam does not have a laser pointer for registration mark setting....... Just the same is it possible to use SignCut PRO with the contour feature to contour cut? I've never had a need to use this machine for that purpose and with a few xtra minutes this weekend tried that task...but found the SignCut PRO locking up during set-up for contour, wondered if it's driver issues that can be worked around, or operator error?

Registration marks will need to be in the project when you send it to the printer and subsequently cutter. Since you are using a vector image, your cut outline or contour will need to be a unique color to avoid also cutting other lines within the image, as you will direct the cut program to cut only that color. If you choose to use SignCut, while you may have the PRO version, this is a good video demonstrating how to perform the task with SCX2 launched from Corel which has similarities. http://www.sc-x2.com/files/mov/SimpleContourcut/index.html

Trouble finding artwork when importing from inkscape
edge replied to sportsnthings702's topic in SignBlazer
When you attempt to load the vector object into SignBlazer, you are clicking File > Import; correct? I ask because you've used the word open and import interchangabily in your posts and they are not the same. When in the import screen, you have selected the correct file type in the lower left of your screen, correct? Your vector object in not all white with no outline is it? Here is a simple vector object created in Inkscape and tested on SignBalzer for you to save and then attempt to import into SignBlazer... if you attempt this, perhaps you can isolate the source of your problem as either Inkscape or SignBlazer. I've been using the Inkscape eport as .EPS for several years now on a Windows XP based system without issue. PIG.eps PIG.eps -
I'm fairly certain I've seen a font at www.dafont.com with military objects that included a Huey.
