  1. So I'm having a little cutting issue with siser easyweed. As the rollers transfer the material I can see it bunch ever so slightly as it pushes the material towards the blade, this results in a tiny bit of slack when it changes direction. This is something I've noticed before, but it hasn't given me much issue until I went to cut this graphic that has some oval pinstripes around it. The oval is about 10" wide by 6" high and when it cuts I can't seem to get the lines parralel, they have a slight variation in thickness. I haven't goofed around with a ton of settings yet as I don't want to kill a bunch of material. The graphic cuts perfectly in vinyl so I know it's not the image. I might be trying something that just isn't possible with easyweed? Here's where I'm at right now: MH-refine 24" Sharp 45* blade. 300mm/s 50gram cut pressure Blade depth seems good, I can barely see the outline on a piece of backing

    Cutting issue with siser easyweed

Thanks, I'll try some of those suggestions this evening. Is there any benefit to a 60* blade with the easyweed? And how much speed should I drop? Pinch rollers are okay, it's creation game little wave between the rollers and blade, not actually slipping the material. So the concensus is that I should be able to cut this detail on easyweed and I'm not wasting my time?

    T shirt project from today

Been several years since I played with some cheap HTV, so I decided to get some siser and mess around. The graphic is from a race series I started then added a few graphics for a guy I sponsor engine work for. How is the durability of the siser easyweed? I applied it at 310 degrees (checked with a thermocouple) for 15 seconds using an old hobby lite press.

Okay, the stuff I used years back had a hard time staying stuck on any thin lines, or sharp points.

    Need help with a #5

A friend of mine wants to run this number 5 on his race kart in tribute to his dad that ran the number on his sprint car, unfortunately this was the best photo of the number he has and it's a bit out of my scope. Anyone have a similar font or want to take a stab at it for me?
  6. Local sign shop wanted $500+ for this job on two doors (it's in a pretty upper crust area). I did it for $300 cash and I almost feel bad. 48" wide, installed, no removal of old graphics. I don't normally do things for other people, just my own personal stuff, but this is making me rethink that a little.
  7. Yes, door is on a 3500 dodge single cab, graphic is 48" long.

trying to put an outline on this image

Mb20, thanks a ton, that was an awesome tutorial!
  9. Okay, I'm trying to just put an outline around this image I drew, but I'm struggling with the typical inline/outline/expand features. I just want to do say a .05 perimeter outline with a .05 offset. When I try to do it all I can manage to do it outline every detail of the image, not just the perimeter. Can someone walk me through this one? Thanks, Ford. Matilda.SBD

overmyhead, tried that real quick, thought I had it then realized I was working in wire outline. Here is where I'm stuck now, see attatched file. Matilda.SBD

    transfer tape residue

Thanks for the replies, I might be a little heavy on the squegee, maybe I should pick up a felt squegee? I'm using the RTape clear, medium tack and I'd like something a little less sticky to be honest. I do a lot of plastic go kart bodies which have a semi smooth finish, and you have to kill it with the squegee to get them to stick, but that's like a catch 22, works the vinyl even harder into the transfer tape. Any opinions on a low tack tape?

    transfer tape residue

Having a bit of an issue with Transfer tape being overly sticky, tearing, and leaving lots of residue on my vinyl. I've used the green star layflat clear and it worked well at first, but then as it sat a while it started doing it. Then I got a roll of RTape medium and I've had the problem since it was new. I notice if I heat it a little with the gun is leaves less residue (I'm in California, so it's not exactally cold to start with). I'm wondering if it's how I'm storing it (in my office, thermostat is usally about 70 degrees)? or does this stuff have a short shelf life? Any pointers would be great, I've messed around with vinyl off and on for years and never really had this problem to this extent before.

Need help opening a .WPC file

Okay, so I'm having a problem with a file that a friend of mine that used to do graphics sent me. It's some work he did for me long ago and he doesn't have the file anymore, so the only one I have is one he send me a while back that I had no luck in opening. It's a .WPC I sent it so a pretty savy programing friend, and he thought it might be a wordpad conversion file, but upon further reveiw he siad it might be a graphics specific file? Anyhow, I'm having zero luck with it and hoping someone here can help me out? If I could get it in a PDF I would be very grateful. thanks, ford cook ford@fordcookdesign.com Okay, so the forum will not let me attatch a .WPC so if you think you could help just email me and I can just forward it over.
  15. I'm still learning the ropes here, but I'm pretty happy for day 5 of getting back into cutting! I have this logo I've been working on, but it needs a little cleanup and I'm kind of running out of talent! LOL! If someone could check it out for me, and maybe help me out with the outer ring as it got a little skewed at some point and it kind of got away from me. thanks in advance, this forum has been a great help so far, I'm really enjoying it! ford cook email: ford@fordcookdesign.com SFRV2.SBD

.SBD file I just need a little help cleaning up

Thanks Jay. I tried that last night and I think the ratio of my elipse might have been off? It was late, I was tired and frustrated a little. I'll give it another stab tonight. Does the rest of the design look okay? This is my first paying job really and it is covering about half the investment of my cutter so I want to put out nice results. Thanks again, I wouldn't be able to be doing any of this without this forum!

Vector image won't appear in SBE

I've been having the same problem with EPS files going from Inkscape to SBE. happens about 80% of the time. Have you tried right click copy and then in SBE Edit/clipboard paste? This is the only way it's been working for me on about the last 10 things I've done in inkscape. I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong???

how do I delete a path?

Thanks Jay, that seemed to work. not sure why I didn't think of that? the last week has just been a wealth of new knowledge and remembering things about graphics that I had totally forgotten for the last ten years. thanks again, ford.

how do I delete a path?

I have an image and after vectorizing it left me with two fairly broad lines instead of one solid line for the outline, think of it like a pair of railroad tracks. I want to delete the two inner paths so I just have one broad line. Curious if there is an easy way to do this instead of doing it one node at a time? thanks, sorry if this is a rudimentary question. -ford.

Need help opening a .WPC file

Okay, turns out it is a Pazzles inspiration file. A really nice girl from Pazzles was able to convert it to an AI and a PDF for me. In return I promise never to make fun of scrapbooking clubs again! thanks again to all that tried to help, I really appreciate it

Need help opening a .WPC file

Thanks Christian, I emailed the file earlier today. Skeeter. I'm aware of a .WPC conversion file used by microsoft in the mid 90's most common with word pad and rich text formatting. there are some other odd programs unrelated that also use the .WPC extension that is not associated with microsoft. I have a feeling thats what this may be. I've sent it to a couple savy friends in the programing world and they said the file may be corrupt but they don't think it's a microsoft based program. And seeing as it originally came from someone that did graphics, the only think I could find is a graphics/craft program called "inspiration" that is used with a cutter from a company called "pazzles" I posted an inquiry over on their forum as well.

Need help opening a .WPC file

It doesn't. That's what I thought, but word, wordpad, or wordperfect will not recognize it. I saw that a program called "inspiration" which seems like a craft type graphics program uses .WPC

    how about some opinions?

Hey Everybody, I've been lurking on this forum as a guest for quite a while, and really enjoy looking at your projects. I was involved in vinyl sign work for a few year about 7 or so years ago. I worked in a race shop that had a rolland Camm machine, I believe it ran on some variant of the Ultra Flex software. I was somewhat handy with it back then, but unfortunately have forgotten most that I had learned back then. I've always missed it though, it was a lot of fun at the time, and I enjoyed doing little projects and side jobs after hours, so lately I've been seriously considering buying a small machine to play around with. Mainly for doing some lettering with my son on our R/C cars, messing around with paint mask material and some heat transfer material (I have a nice heat press from back then just going to waste in the rafters). I really don't have the room to dedicate to a large machine at the moment so I'm pretty set on 12" MH series cutter (unless there are performace/reliability issues with it) I think it would be fine for almost anything I would want to do getting my feet back in the water with vinyl signage and if I really get into it again and want to dedicate some of my very small house to a larger machine I'll consider it at that point. I am however not as set on the software, I've been playing a bit with Sign Blazer Elements in trial mode, but wondering if it's worth the added cost to upgrade to the flexi starter? Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks, ford cook

    how about some opinions?

thanks for the opinions, I'm glad to hear that SBE will probably work more than adaquately for what I plan on doing to start off. as far as the media size goes, I figured I'd just use 24" media and cut it down with a straight edge as needed, I don't plan on really cutting any long runs so it should be fine to just cut material to fit the cutter as I need it. thanks again, Anything else??? ford cook
