Welcome from Florida and Thank you for your service. Keep reading these forums they are a gold mine of ideas, hints & suggestions. I would definitely look into the sprint & souvenir niche - Slice&dice is right on with his ideas.

I totally agree! In a cloud based system you never really own your data! In every case the owner of the server or even the (hard disk) the server is on is the only legal owner, and what happens if/when the cloud company goes out of business or gets sold??? Your terms of service are with the original owner and until the courts weigh in you may not even have a right to the copyright if the design was build on the cloud! Possession is 9/10ths of the law, even in the cloud. Cloud systems are for large corporations that maintain their own cloud, not for consumers or small businesses.

I've found I am my own best credit grantor. Over the years I saved money in various banks, CD's, investments, etc... When I need liquid cash I loan my company the money. I started with just a $500.00 dollar account and slowly let it build. If I don't have enough to pay myself back then how can I expect someone else to foot my bills?? It works and if you do it through collateralized loans then you also build a credit rating.

Ok, got it. Thanks Dakotafx! BTW Dakotafx: I tried those cleancut blades you keep raving about - KEEP RAVING! They are amazing! They seem to get better with use. I started with graphtec blades, but when I switched to cleancut, I had to lower my pressure by more than half! now I can do intricate small lettering, truly a godsend. For the rest of you this is no joke, they really are that good.

Pricing for small window decals
lueman replied to threezzz's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
One Correction: I start at $.30 to $.50 and reduce as logo gets wider so 12 x 12 (144sq/") I'll reduce by 1/4 not 1/2 -
Pricing for small window decals
lueman replied to threezzz's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I don't know, too much about this side of the business, but I charge per square inch so a 3"X 4" would be priced the same as a 1" X 12": and for larger items ($30,$40...etc) items I offer the 1/2 deal because larger items tend to weed better. With this formula I can scale in any direction, but I do charge a different rate per inch depending on the customer, but I never go below $.30 to as much as $.55. -
Glitter Heat Transfer... HELP! before I throw out my machine
lueman replied to awesome_rosie's topic in General discussion
It should work the same as any other heat transfer: Medium pressure, a little tip showing, sharp blades. try a 60deg blade and do small test cuts first. -

Try to get contract work from your current employer.just show them it's less expensive to contract excess work, than to pay for overtime or adding an extra shift, especially they can take big tax advantages by contracting work out. Remember each employee costs an employer the rate per hour plus 15% for ssn & medicare. -

Home based business is the way to go. When we first starting out, my wife started working from home 13 years ago and now we have a storefront, we never grossed below 30K even in this crappy economy. some tips: A home based business is all about service and personal attention to detail. Try to have at least 1 (hopefully more) steady long-term clients that can pay the rent. designate a percentage of the house as your work area, you'll use this percent when you do taxes & deductions. GET LEGAL! get all the papers you need from the city/county state & get a resale certificate. Most cities allow you to have a small office out of your home so unless you are getting a 64" Muton you will be fine. You can use your ssn for the IRS, but I've never seen any great benefit in not getting a dedicated EIN instead. Use this forum a lot there are some outstanding members that can help with just about anything. Good luck! -

lueman replied to limitedlane's topic in Vinyl Cutters
I don't know much about these machines but sounds like a language issue, rather than communication. Set language to Graphtec/Craft robo, GPGL. -
LaserPoint USB port
lueman replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Support Requests
A couple things to check: this could the a buffer overrun error; make sure your com settings are correct I use hardware handshaking, 8,1,None 9600 baud but xon/xoff can work too. I've heard a memory upgrade helps , but still the software should wait for the machine to be ready.
